i remember reading something about brand new 2JZ's and how there is a production issue with them and something bad can happen to the block. is this true?

Note as well that the small number of documented failures were all covered under Toyota's warranty, of course (a warranty you won't get buying a used block btw). Fwiw, I'm sure that if you contact Jeff or Curt, he'll tell you what the current situation is.

I've purchased US-Spec 2jz-gte's from Curt before. You have to buy the head separate from the shortblock, but everything's available. Specifically what did he say he didn't sell?

Parts ManagerYup, Toyota doesn't sell used engines. They do sell US-Spec 2jz-gte's but they're all brand-new afaik.

try taprecycling they are the bigest dealer of used parts for lexus and toyota they might have what you need.

Does anyone have an update on where to buy usdm 2jz-gte engines?
