Well as most of the people that know me from I-supra, SM, and SF's Know that I'm buildin up the good ol 7m. SM is dead right now and I thought I'd post pics here 1st. From the initial tear down to the parts gathered so far. I'll be getting things back from the machine shop sometime this week.

Got things back from the machine shop last night and as a result got a BHG on my DD but its all good!! lol!...Man, that makes me giggle. Just because we are so different in that way. If that happened to me, I would be upset. Just funny how you laugh it off.

You seem to be doing great managing this project. Can't help but think: IF only we were closer, I'd give you a hand or check up on you.

Justin727
12-18-2005, 08:14 PM
yea lol as soon as I coasted the car into my drive way I got out and laughed fairly loud! The people next door looked at me like i was crazy but I went about things as usual. I can repair that cheaper then a 7m so no worries! Yea Tony if you were here man it would be awesome, i've been tryin to get you to move down here for how long now?

very possible nick. I dont know the exact history of this motor before i got ahold of it so thats possible. No metal shavings in the motor or oil. The oil pump screen was clear as day as you can see.

lets see, rebuilding a 7m plus doing it where the neighbors see you equals the sinister mad scientist luagh, hahahaha, i love that! anyway, good choice for parts justin, choice of champs! how much do you think you are gonna dyno when you have it ready? Just thinking about it has me itching to finish up on my project even though I am going 1j, but I still have my love for the 7m, I never had it fail me.

Justin727
12-20-2005, 04:34 PM
well im looking for anything over 500 honestly and the GT3540R has shown alot more promise then just 500 but off the bat thats not a bad shot. One day i'll tackle a 1jz swap because I would much prefer a 90 to do that swap in. I'll build the 1jz to be my track/cruise car. 7M weekend monster maybe some during the week.

seriously, that is sick........ whats nice is that after you finish this, you are going with a 1j project also. Damn, I wish I was your neighbor, it would have been bad ass to have you around to maybe help me out with my swap. So far I am almost done but I am waiting for my crossmember to come in so I can finish the swap and drop the car down to see how everything goes from there. I am just hoping to god that it goes ok.

Justin727
12-21-2005, 05:29 PM
Thanks ALL! Goodluck with your 1jz swap. Its not so bad and there should be alot of guys in FL willing to lend a hand! I'll be heading to FWB for new years weekend! Yea there wont be anymore updates till after new years sometime because I got a few things I gotta do over the next few weeks. Not too long. Gotta hook up and tune my buddies supra he ordered an Apexi s-afc along with walbro kit. He'll be buying an intercooler kit sometime... Everything is going by smooth! once agian thanks everyone for the compliments and I will update as soon as I progress!

Thanks alot Flubyux2.. I had to lay down some of the freshness on her. Got rid of the old nasty tan interior and swapped out of my N/A some mint grey interior. Gonna respray the engine bay before i drop the motor back in... Depends on how soon I can get to it. Then i gotta do some work on my BHG Tbird and get it running agian.

Well sorry I havent been on to update recently just been getting alot of other things done that needed to be done. Work is full time so I havent had a day off to do anything new. Today I cleaned out some of my shop and removed somethings from the engine bay to get it ready to paint. I did a test mock up with the exhaust manifold to see if it would clear. Here are the pics
Doesnt look too bad from here does it?

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a289/Justindj727/000_0838.jpg

Improvise damnit!
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a289/Justindj727/000_0839.jpg

If that doesnt help it then I'll have to heat it up some and work that part of the manifold up some. Besides that she fit perfect! I dont plan to use an oil filter relocation kit because I just dont wanna bother on mounting something somewhere else. Stock will suit me just fine.

Looking Good Justin, but I have to say the finish on the block deck and the head looked a little on the rough side. I would have expected a much smoother looking surface for a metal head gasket, did the machine shop tell you to what Ra they finished the surfaces? It should be no rougher than 10-15 for a try metal headgasked, and just from the pictures, it looked closer to 30, but maybe it is smoother in person?
Other than that,, It looks to be quite a potent combo. I'd just to see the gasket let loose on you...
Keep us posted on your good work, -Jake

Sorry guys I forgot I even had this thread on TSF's... But the regenators are something else. You use the Chicago Typewriter(tommy gun) yet?? lol

alright as you can see in my previous pics my manifold hit the oil filter housing. Well I massaged that housing and now the manifold isnt hitting and the head seats perfect on the block. pics now.

havent gotten the Chicago typewriter yet. i played thru RE4 and beat it... now i just have to work up the gumption to go thru it all again and take my time. those regenerators are crazy... same as the crazy baish with the chainsaw. the guy w/ the chainsaw comes at you fast and hard...especially on the hard setting.

anyways, that turbo looks damn good now. that must be the 1st gen manifold... cuz mine has the XS power tag on the #1 runner and clears the filter housing.

those look like wiseco's on eagle rods. did all your rings come out to 0.018" end gap?

also, the trick to getting a perfect block finish w/o lapping is to get the block SURFACE ground, not milled. Milled is the traditional engine decking process. all machine shops do it. you can get a decent finish if you go w/ a fast cutter speed and slow feed rate... but nomatter what you do,itll always have cutter marks, some finer than others. i found that i had to take my block to a General Machine shop (this shop makes plastic injection molds and such) and had them put the block on the Surface grinder. it ran for about 2 hours. they had to take out 0.017" to get all the pitting out of the block. but when it came back, it was FLAWLESS. there were no scratches, gouges, stains, cutter marks, pitting or anything. it looked like finished cast iron. i could have finished the head the exact same way, and run with NO head gasket.

Justin727
04-19-2006, 10:40 PM
The lovely chainsaw girls and guys. lol. Also mr chain gun man. I've gone thru it a few times and then the same with the mini misions. Got all the mercenaries. Fun playin as Krauser too!

Anyhow. Yea I believe its a 1st gen manifold. Also Yes those are eagles and Wiseco's. I was the 1st to post comparison pics of the eagles and stockers months ago on SF's and SM. My end gap for the top rings did come out to 18 also I didnt have to File my 2nd set of rings cause they all spec'd out right.
Also I took my block to a different machine shop and they got it real smooth. The only thing I gotta lap is the head and that isnt a big deal.
Bishop is going to make it over soon and help with reassembly. He wants to plastigauge all the bearings and such with me so thats cool!
Can't wait to get this back together.
Things I still need.
MHG
Fuel injectors
Walbro
AFPR
MAFT PRO
WIDEBAND
FMIC

BOV flange

seems like youve got a decent amoutn of stuff you stil need to get. let us know how the plastiguage specs turn out. im interested to see what your oil clearances turn out to be. i did a 2.3 stroker for a DSM and w/ the new crank and the new bearings, it was closer to the loose side of spec. the odd thing was it was a FACTORY Fresh crank and std sized bearings.

btw, you need your setup to look like this ;)

Alright when i get to it i'll post pics along with spec's. The machinest measured it all out and said it came out to std. So he ordered me Clevite77 mains, rods, Thrust washers, all for 90.00 so i wasnt complaining.
I still need a good bit along with SS oil and fuel lines :( but I'll get there.
I'm still jealous over your wheels! That setup is gonna work wonders.
Now I'm in a predicament i want to get sorted out before i go on.
I ordered s spec stage 3 long ago when i thought I was only gonna do about 450-500.
well now it seems that i can easily do 550-600 and the spec stage 3 clutch is well out rated now. Tryin to research to see if I can just get a different clutch disc but then agian that might not be a good idea because the pp also needs to clamp tighter.
But some of us thing I can just buy a stage 5 clutch disc and use it and not burn it up... hmmmmmm

see, the catch is... that "Standard spec" is a range. and i personally prefer my stuff to be on the tighter side of spec. like the Stroker motor i did on the DSM, it was on the loose side, and i was uncomfortable using it like that... but, the Service limit was a good ways off from my measurements, so i was reassured that my "loose" side of spec was perfectly fine. but, different people/shops had different interpretations of "acceptable".

i wonder if the bearing prices went up. i seem to remember getting my rod, main and thrust bearings for $70ish last year? did you have to replace the Oil pump driveshaft bearings or are those ok?

you could try to return the pressure plate or sell it off. maybe call up South Bend clutch in Indiana. my friends have had good luck w/ them and they will make you anything you want from what i understand. you could call them up and ask them if a 3200lb pressure plate for a 7M would hold your HP figures. whatever you get, i would get a metallic/feramic disc, preferably a 6puck-ish. more pounds per square inch w/ a puck than on a full-face organic disc.

Oh and dont sweat the wheels... they cost more than my CAR did. in fact, if i sold all my cars for what i bought them for, i still couldnt buy a set of these new! these wheels are a money pit! theres a reason why MK3 owners dont have 505a's on their car yet. lol im just lucky i have an MKIV friend who wants new wheels. do yourself a favor, Dont start hanging out w/ MKIV guys... cuz youll start scoffing at $1500 turbos, $2500 wheels, 800rwhp figures, etc. im living the MKIV lifestyle on a MK3 budget and it doesnt work! lol
