Dependable , im considering bagging one and that sorts just curious aboout the 4.3 v6. Brewster 09-18-2005, 09:33 PM Well I had a 98 blazer 4 door. It wasn't an xtreme but are they really that different? It had a good amount of torque but it was slow as crap. Expect frequent problems with the ball joints and tie rod ends. I probably replaced those 3-4 times each within 10k miles, then sold it. I also had to replace the rear diff, throttlebody and sensor, windshield wiper computer, and other stuff I don't remember. I was having to fix something on it every two weeks. Oh, the engine also sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Syris 10-11-2005, 09:10 PM they did really appeal to me till toyota finally released the x-runner. I know the blazer xtremes are supposed to be really bad for rolling over... The engines are supposed to be pretty rock solid(cant beleive im sayin that about a GM) flubyux2 10-18-2005, 01:18 PM they are nice, considerng they are the same thing as an Isuzu Hombre... w/ a body kit. youer better off NOT buying anything american-engineered unless it has a V8. thats the only thing American engineers can get right. SP 7M 11-01-2005, 07:41 AM youer better off NOT buying anything american-engineered unless it has a V8. thats the only thing American engineers can get right. Not totally related to the thread, but I've seen a couple of Dodge cars here for sale and the "Hemis" in them are assembled in Mexico. American cars are not really American cars. flubyux2 11-01-2005, 02:08 PM i know about the mexican hemi's. i know the early hemi's were assembled in mexico. they are notorious for collapsed valve springs which allow the valve to drop down into the cylinder and take out the entire engine. even hemi's as new as 05 are still at risk for it. my friend had an 05 QC Laramie Hemi shortbox 4x4 w/ sport package and H-package inside. that truck was bad as hell... but was having problems. he traded up and got an 04 F250 Harley-Davidson crewcab shortbox 4x4 with the powerstroke. the truck is valued at $52k and the "Ham" was only like $38 or $42k... but he got it for less w/ the haggling. the Hams are cool as hell and id take the risk of the mexico engine, just because its a 350 that makes more power and torque than the LS1's in the C5's, heheh. the american V8's are engineered properly, i think its the materials and assembly that could possibly be at fault. Stealth97 11-01-2005, 02:36 PM Why you want to bag an Xtreme? Poor quality Isuzu shared platform trucks. Lowest bottom of the barrel in terms of quality and materials used. flubyux2 11-02-2005, 01:04 AM i like the way this guy thinks... every time i see a 2G S10 of any sort, i make it a point to say "thats a cute Isuzu Homber you got there" and yes, i say 'HOM-BER'... not "OHM-BRAY". i make it an absolute point to butcher the mexhican name of the S10. seriously, dont buy a bitch truck, at least get a half-ton fullsize. Mini-trucks are about as useful as tits on a boar, or teacup Yorkies/chihuahua's. SP 7M 11-02-2005, 08:24 AM In true loyal-to-Toyota fashion, I'm a Tacoma and Tundra fan. I'd like to see Toyota build a bigger V8 to use in the Tundra, but the 4.7 is still nice. For bigger trucks, I really like the Dodge 2500 with the Cummins deisel. When it comes to trucks for this guy, it better be 4x4. flubyux2 11-02-2005, 02:55 PM yeah, id rahter be stroked than cummins apart ;) lol SP 7M 11-03-2005, 07:35 AM yeah, id rahter be stroked than cummins apart ;) lolThis guy! Seems as though we've got a comedian on our hands. flubyux2 11-03-2005, 09:03 AM it would seem that way, indeed. Loki89t 11-03-2005, 05:56 PM When it comes to trucks for this guy, it better be 4x4. Same here, I'm thinking once my Supra is back together and running it's time for a truck. I've been thinking about a early '80s Toyota, lifted up on 35's (for now ;) ) with a 7M swapped in. Should be able to keep up with my buddies '78 Ford that is on 39s with a 460 in it :snork_lac SP 7M 11-04-2005, 02:31 AM My dad bought an 81 Toyota 4x4 pickup brand new way back. He bought it in CA and took it with him when my parents moved back to MI (shortly after I was born). He said he was once driving through snow that was so deep it was coming up over the hood. He stopped at one point and backed up and said he could see the indentation of the front of the truck in the snow. He bought $150 (each) tires for it so I'm guessing they were pretty good. $150 a tire back in the early 80's was a lot, I'm sure. Even though the 22R isn't a big, powerful engine, they sure are reliable. Loki89t 11-04-2005, 05:23 PM Even though the 22R isn't a big, powerful engine, they sure are reliable. That they are, I'd like to pick up a truck soon but I'm not making enough money to buy a truck and have my car ready for next summer. I don't live in a big town and everything is withen walking distance. Also I have no life, so it's not like I need to go anywhere :snork_lac flubyux2 11-05-2005, 01:42 AM i want a truck, but i want to build something diesel and efficient. i can build an old school Samurai with a VW TDI 1.9L. put that thing on 33's, lifted and get 35mpg ;) plus, you can make your own diesel... for like $0.70 per gallon! and no, im not talkin about straight veggie oil, i mean by taking veggie oil and mixing Lye and Methanol into it. Loki89t 11-05-2005, 10:21 AM plus, you can make your own diesel... for like $0.70 per gallon! and no, im not talkin about straight veggie oil, i mean by taking veggie oil and mixing Lye and Methanol into it. I saw them do that on TV once, if I had a diesel I would probably consider doing that. Would be alot cheaper then buying diesel. flubyux2 11-06-2005, 01:48 AM yeah, its freakin awesome. the jew in me says i should convert all my cars to diesel and make my own fuel and say "**** the man". plus, diesels sound cool and smell cool. and the torque they make is wicked awesome. and theres nothing like flooring it, getting loud spool and belching O-zone killing black exhaust everywhere! Loki89t 11-06-2005, 12:09 PM A diesel Supra would be kind of interesting....yea, that's the word.... SP 7M 11-07-2005, 07:57 AM plus, diesels sound cool and smell cool. and the torque they make is wicked awesome. and theres nothing like flooring it, getting loud spool and belching O-zone killing black exhaust everywhere!Diesels are cool in their own right. I'm just a fan of them in trucks, though. Nice wording there, Chris. flubyux2 11-07-2005, 12:00 PM there is nothing like the deep sound of a diesel exhaust and the insane turbine whistle. my friend who has the 04 F250 harley-davidson took hs cat out, and is running open DP right now. that 6.0 international has a VNT turbo on it. and you can really tell too. when he first starts the truck, the vanes go from their parked position/wide open and close up within a few seconds. so when the truck starts, it has a REALLY loud and deep exhaust note, sounds very bad ass. then, the vanes close completley and the exhaust bellow goes away. it changes into a crazy-loud rushing air sound. all you hear is WHSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH at idle. as the truck warms up, the turbine start to speed up and it sounds EXACTLY like a Commercial Jet, like a Boeing or Airbus. the turbine noise is ear piercing... ive decided i NEED to have that turbo. 88mm inducer, 5" inlet antisurge housing, varible geometry, 4" V-band exhaust housing, 4" Vband turbine inlet...freakin awesome. im almost positive i can write a map on the AEM to control the vanes and spoolup. That is true, I love the way diesel trucks sound  Stealth97 11-07-2005, 02:59 PM there is nothing like the deep sound of a diesel exhaust and the insane turbine whistle. my friend who has the 04 F250 harley-davidson took hs cat out, and is running open DP right now. that 6.0 international has a VNT turbo on it. and you can really tell too. when he first starts the truck, the vanes go from their parked position/wide open and close up within a few seconds. so when the truck starts, it has a REALLY loud and deep exhaust note, sounds very bad ass. then, the vanes close completley and the exhaust bellow goes away. it changes into a crazy-loud rushing air sound. all you hear is WHSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH at idle. as the truck warms up, the turbine start to speed up and it sounds EXACTLY like a Commercial Jet, like a Boeing or Airbus. the turbine noise is ear piercing... ive decided i NEED to have that turbo. 88mm inducer, 5" inlet antisurge housing, varible geometry, 4" V-band exhaust housing, 4" Vband turbine inlet...freakin awesome. im almost positive i can write a map on the AEM to control the vanes and spoolup. Yes the AEM can control the variable vanes in the turbo. It actually has already been done in another platform. Just a pulsewidth signal. The problem you will have, is the EGT for gasoline engines is much higher than in a diesel engine. The variable vanes of the turbo do not cope with high EGT's. I suspect the turbo will fail within 500-1500 miles at worst and maybe 3500-5000 at best. If you get more than 5000 miles, I will be very surprised. Good luck to you. | |
