i started up the supra and have noticed that there is a loud whine when just sitting there at idle. It sounds like a PS whine but i dont even touch the wheel and itll sit there and keep doing it. Itll whine, stop for about 10sec and then whine again. I eevn gave it time to warm up for awhile and it will still do it. The car is 88 Turbo auto

it sounds like when you would turn the steering wheel all the way over to the left or to the right and hold it would sound in a vehicle.

Hello

It sure sounds like oil starvation in your PS system, the typically fault is a clogged filter in your PS oil reservoir. It will cause exactly the symptoms you are describing.

I am gonna take a guess at this but it might just be the problem, check your alternator. If you place your ear close to it and you hear the whine from there, then yeah your alternator is letting out its final death whine. It happened to my supra before and found out it was the alternator, I found out the hard way when one day my car was just not charging the system. I tell you what, that to me trully sucked. If you can, check your voltage from the alternator and see if it is up to par, if its eratic, then its about to give soon. Check the specs on the amps and the resistance through the TSRM, even though I forgot the website this guy had one time that had the TSRM. You should be able to find it in the SOGI or SONIC web site. Let me know if its that.
