Ok lets say I put in 7.5 gallons of 91 octane. How much ATF will I want to add and how much Xylene will I want to add for a 98-100 octane mix?

why does it matter your n/a?

Advanced timing...

I dunno about this one, but I wouldn't add automatic transmission fluid (ATF) to MY fuel system!!!!

You won't benefit much at all from better fuel unless you're running at minimum 10psi of boost. You may even lose power by doing this.

100 oz of xylene for octane boost
25 oz of mineral spirits (cleaning agent)
3 oz of transmission fluid (lubricating agent) -- I use Marvel Mystery Oil instead

That makes 1 gallon of 117octane additive.

When you ad the following percentage of Xylene mix to 92 Octane pump gas, you'll get:

10%...94.5 Octane
20%...97.0 Octane
30%...99.5 Octane

It's not recommended to go over 30%. Now 99.5 octane using this method will not mean the gas is as good as the 100 octane you'll buy from an oil company. The difference between the "R" and the "M" (in the formula R+M/2) will be larger which indicates that this fuel will be less stable. It also will also have a different specific gravity than regular pump fuel and race fuel -- so for optimal performance you would have to retune (especially if you had the car tuned on the ragged edge)

But how much cylinder pressure does he need to light? There is no point to running super advanced timing. Just suppose he cranks it to 18 BTDC and doesnt detonate. He still wont make max power becuase combustion will start too soon, putting pressure against the piston while it is still traveling up the cylinder bore by a good amount.

Yes, but I only want to run 15 BTDC. People are currently doing it with only 91 octane, which is what I run 24/7, but I just don't feel safe running 15 btdc with only 91 octane, so I figured I'd try out advanced timing and see what gains I can get.

 :laughabov

craig its time you get some boost and stop messing around with this NA hooha lol

Yea I know I realized that last night. It's time to start saving my money. I'm just gonna leave my timing at 12 BTDC and keep running 91 octane to save some money (As opposed to running race gas). Thanks for the input though, and thanks Jeff for the calculations, should come in use in the future. :snork_lac

the nice thing about NAs is you have a far larger margin of error- i.e. less chance to break stuff....an NA ping is far different from a mega-boost ping....

back in my NA days i ran 16 DBTDC on 92-93 octane. no detonation problems, etc.

EDIT: i used to mix my own xylene "race" gas, but further research into the MON rating of it discouraged me. now it's C16 or low boost.... :sheep:

Psst Isnt Marvel Mystery oil, Ford Tranny Fluid. B&M trick shift fluid is also just standard Ford Fuild.

O rly? So do u think 14 btdc is ok on 91 octane? I'm at 12 right now and would like to increase the power output a little bit but I didn't want to pay for race gas for daily driving. I appreciate the input Adam and would like more if possible :drugged: Thanks. I've heard of others running 15 btdc on 91 but I feel 14 would be safer just in case the car pulls timing or pings.

it's hard to say really, depends on the car/setup/etc. give it a shot and see if it pings, if it does then back down timing.

you're not going to see that much more power from a degree or two....
