You don't hear it because he makes the same power at 6000 as he does at 8500 RPM, so each shift he just hits the powerband and it all kind of mushes together and sounds the same.
Plus, it is a TH400 Chevy tranny. The infamous best trans ever built by Hydramatic. It uses only clutches in the drums to shift. No bands here (like a 700R4, 4L60E). Shifts are insant with this tranny. Literally, instant.

Its also a auto (I think) and the autos sound like that when there sick. Thats an old vid!!!

Yes, TH400 Turbo Hydramatic 400 series transmission made for Chevrolet and GMC heavy duty trucks primarily. One of the best transmissions ever invented.
The shifts happen instantly in this automatic. No lag, no waiting for a band to slip and engage. No nonsense. Just a drum pack, some clutches, and some gears.
