I get so many calls about clutches failing, that I put together a checklist for all of you.
ANY clutch will fail if the following occurs:
1) improper break-in period
2) Old unsurfaced flywheel is used
3) pressure plate is re-used
4) pilot and throwout bearings aren't replaced
5) snap rings come off
6) sprung disk install backwards by mechanic then torqued down and bent.
7) oil or grease gets on friction surfaces
8) pressure plate bolts back out (has happened to lots of customers on all types of clutches - most common)
9) pressure plate fails (has happened to a few of my customers)
10) too much power for clutch friction material
11) too many drag racing style launches
Cases 1-8 are due to customer or mechanic. Case 9 is due to a manufacturing defect.
