They don't offer address verification for international customers, and too many people file fraudulent claims (or hi-jack someone else's account).

Makes sense.
paypal bite the big one as far as i'm concerned anyway... i'd rather give my credit card details to HPF or anyone else i chose to deal with and wait for it to clear before they shipped if neccessary...

I live in Canada and am a verified Paypal user. Is there another type of verrification I am not aware of? I thought i was fully verrified
I want to use paypal only because i got no cc right now so it's faster for both, and still super secure.
eric
ma71supraturbo 11-15-2005, 09:08 PM Paypal Verified means that they deposited money into your checking account and you were able to tell paypal exactly how much it was (usually a few cents). Address verified happens when you either have paypal snail mail you a code that you enter to prove you live at that address or when you enter a credit card with paypal and they are able to verify through the credit card company that you do live at that address...
BIGG_EASY 11-15-2005, 09:09 PM Ahh, thanks for the clarification. I'm gona look into verifying my address too. If I managed to do it, would you then accept my paypal?
eric

When people order from us via credit card, we are able to verify the CVV2 code on the back of the card, the billing address, and we even verify the phone number. With Paypal, we can't verify anything, and fraud is rampant these days. We will on occasion take paypal. The last time I personally took paypal, I got ripped off because the guy insisted I ship the product USPS to cut the costs down. Then he claimed to paypal that he never got it, and I couldn't prove anything so I lost $500.

Eliminate those kinds of problems by not offering any kind of shipping without the buyer paying for insurance and tracking... Doing this protects both the buyer and the seller.
One of the sad facts of being in business is one learns fast the ways that customers can scam the business. Of course new ways are being figured out all of the time. Even sadder is that we have SCUM like this in our world!!! It's too bad because the honest customers are the ones who pay in the end for what these scammers do to businesses. A business has to make up for losses in some way and that just turns out to be higher costs for the honest customer... It is the same for any business whether it be WalMart, Target, Safeway or HPF...

Unfortunately Jim, this only protects the merchant to the extent that they can now prove they shipped parts to the person that ordered them. If the person that ordered them is not the true card holder (as in identity theft) then the merchant will most likely lose and will now have to track down and go after the individual through the legal system which is slow and cumbersome. I've done this on a few people, but it takes a bit of time and effort.
We ship everything "signature required" and everything over $100 is always insured. Insurance only protects the shipper if the product is lost.

I am sure Chris that if there is anyway to get a handle on all of these problems that you have probably figured it out. I never gave a thought to identity theft use of credit cards...
It still makes me sick about what some people will do to screw others. It's pretty sad... In the "olden days" we used to say that about 5% of the people lacked any moral values and might do things like this but I bet the percentage is higher now a days... By saying what I just said I don't mean to infer that 5% of all customers were out to cheat anybody they did business with, but that 5% were of the mindset that they might cheat.
Anyway Chris sock to those theives whenever you get a chance...
Firepower Supra 11-27-2005, 07:59 AM paypal rocks, safe, secure, instant payment with buyer protection.. i almost use it exclusivly for online purchases..
Paypal rocks if you are a buyer not if you are a seller. Paypal froze $22,000 of my money for no apparent reason other than they didn't like the amount of money we were moving per transaction. We have never had a buyer complaint or dispute using paypal ever. There are other means of paying online like such as auction checkout and bidpay.
Most large venders have secure payment gateways built into their website. My word to the wise is 1) never hold large amounts of money in paypal and 2) never use it for large transactions. Paypal will also close your account if you log in from to many different IP addresses. They will hold all of your money for 6 months.
Just some things to keep in mind.

Sorry to hear of your problems with PayPal as a seller.
I have been using PayPal as a buyer for several years now and it has been a "rocky" road in my opinion. So if that is what you mean by it "rocks" for buyers then I agree with you...haha...
I have quit them three times over problems that I couldn't seem to get ironed out. You cannot deal with PayPal in anyway. There is only one way with Paypal and that is the PayPal way. On an average I run in to some kind of a problem with them about twice a year and I only occasionally use their service.
I only use their service when there in no other convenient way. When everything is working like it supposed to it is good. The fact that it is a quick and convenient way to pay for some things is the only reason I keep going back to their service.
So maybe PayPal "rocks" for other buyers but I sure don't consider it so...haha...

Wow then I guess they just suck across the board. People never believe the horror stories until it happens to them, trust me I was one of those people. Paypal is a great idea and has many great tools. The shipping and tracking feature is among the most user friendly we have used to to date. However when they hold your money for NO logical reason, and its rather infuriating.
What really sucks is you can file a complaint with paypal for any reason for 180 days and paypal will freeze that amount in the seller account until they decide who is right or wrong, 6 months after the purchase. The paypal reasoning is credit card companies can reverse charges for 180 days after the purchase. The problem with that is who is to say the purchase was made using a credit card. When I asked paypal that very question. Their answer was well payment was made using something.
93dawg 11-27-2005, 10:08 AM Maybe somebody should start a thread called: "Bitches about PayPal."...haha...
joel w. 11-27-2005, 10:23 AM ya i like paypal in the past, but after reading this thread, im shocked its not set up to protect the seller as well. so is there any way to transfer funds safely on both ends?
if cc's are no good, paypal sucks, money orders can be faked? whats left?
what about checks, if you wait for them to clear before you ship? ive used bidpay for international orders with no problems. western union? direct deposits? cash?

Credit cards, bank debit cards and wire transfers are the best for us. With wire transfers, your money is ours as soon as it's in our account. With this method the buyer must fully trust the seller. With credit cards or bank dbit cards we can verify you are who you say you are, and can ship it to the address on the card. With Paypal, we can't verify anything. We just don't take checks period!!
Chris.

it looks like i already have :D i have heard horror stories and i have had one problem with paypal, but it is so easy and fast to use, plus i no longer carry credit cards so its a great way to pay for me. it seems there are others out there that are the same way.
