just wondering what exhaust systems you guys run or what you recommend, cause im looking to get rid of this apexi n1 with something else, i want something with a smoother sound but makes some power, help me make a decision...cause right now im either looking at a custom greddy evo, hks carbon fiber, or an rs*r system...just want more options

dunno man bout going from a N1 to an RS*R or the HKS CF for quiet. hks super dragger is nice and mellow as is the evo but if its had the resonator hacked out.... g luck

I've got a Blitz Nur Spec R and I like it a lot but if you're going for more power than you currently have I'd suggest 4" piping. Almost everybody has roughly 3" piping and it isn't that great for high(er) power applications. I'm not a fan of RS-R. That's a relatively rare brand in the US, but here on Okinawa it might be the most popular-for what reason I don't know. Their mufflers are ugly. If you want to stay with 3" (ish) I really like the Kakimoto Hyper N1 or whatever it's called. I've never seen one of those on any car in the US and I've seen one on a R33 GTR [in Japan] and it was pretty cool.

yea im pretty much running a 3'' all the way down...kakimoto...hmm never heard of them, if you can get me a pic that would be great i wanna see how it looks, i been hearing some good stuff about the blitz nur, but i dont know if want it or not, i like rs*r..maybe its just difference in opinion but i like how they sound and how they look...but i def wanna take a look at that kakimoto, imma see if i can get one

We do have a 3.5" version of the same exhaust that sounds almost exactly the same (slightly more subdued) and tucks up just slightly better under the car. Unless you're making 750whp+ you probably won't see any difference from 3.5" to 4" piping.

i would say, grow some balls and get the goliath system. the sweetest part of that 4" goliath exhaust is that it utilizes an AeroTurbine muffler. i had a tech article about it in my email from a materials vendor. its VERY promising and i want to try this muffler. it seems to make good results on Diesels. considering that the 7M sounds like a diesel, i have a feeling the HPF goliath is going to sound EXTREMELY bad ass.

please will you buy it?

joe, why does your car sound like a weed-whacker? i thought it was cool... im glad i have a 7M. the unmistakable sound of a Cummins Diesel that some how manages to run on Petrol.

bah>:O weedwacker my ass, chris. lol. if you listen to 2Js revving that high they sound similar as well and no one ever refers to them as weed wackers... so poo on your :P

I'd like to hear it in person, but from what I could tell on the video, the Goliath is a little quieter, and a little higher pitched than what I have presently. Do any of you guys from HPF have any performance comparison data for different mufflers? At what point (horsepower level) does the muffler choice become an issue?

The video does not do it justice... It rumbles, very deep, very loud. The higher pitch in the video could be confused with the divorced downpipe which masks the exhaust... There is nothing quiet about it let me tell you! But it'll be hard to compare with no sample from your setup ;)

i know how that is. i remember back on my 7M when i went from stock DP to aftermarket, i had to turn the MBC down because i hit fuel cut at something rediculously early like 3k or something lol. spooled up too fast, mbc set too tight. my switch from 1J stock DP wasnt as drastic. guess it flowed considerably better than the stock 7M did. i didnt notice the difference as much. probably because the 7M one has a precat.

i noticed big sound differences in the stock 7M dp to 3in as well. before, my catback was REALLY quiet. after, the sound opened up alot.

my 1J has always been pretty loud, stock DP and aftermarket.

yabba.. i think I gained a lot of power too and it revs up alot faster.. Its way easier to spin the tires. should a done that DP first, ... I need an external speaker for my scanner now. , I cant hear it over the rumble....:snork_bik

i forgot what it sounded like on my 7M though. almost a year ago since my 7M ran in this car.

friend of mine has one on his 7M though. sounds like a bpu 2j. its pretty nifty.

i dunno. i think catback first is the way to go. then dp. if you had an aftermarket DP with stock catback, itd probably still feel pretty gay. catback opening up at the end is probably better than big diameter dP then bottleneck. i know someone who did a 1j swap into their NA, but had not upgraded the stock catback yet and it was doggedly slow, well for a 1J that is. still quick, but the bigger diameter DP did so much.

It's not that bad, I can drive around all day long and not hear it once. I don't do that cause I love the sound, but I have driven around and not heard it. As long as you don't drive like a moron you will be fine.

I never get tired of hearing the wastegate open, when I upgrade my turbo it's going to have an open wastegate.

ok i got the pacesetter header/dp combo from jeff and the damn thing didnt fit right. i had to cut a part of the outer edge of the flange where the header mounts to the head in order to clear the distributor, also the 02 sensor on the dp was welded in upside down so it doesnt fit at all... after all of this frustration, i decided to put back on all of the stock stuff save for the hi flow cat i also purchased. while i did all of the exhaust mainfold stuff, i decided to do an oil change and i put some mobil 1 and now i have leaky/smoky problems. also, i noticed that i have absolutely no power compared to before and the motor only wants to rev to 3k. this is beyond my technical knowledge and im about ready to take it to a shop and have them deal with it. what should i do?

very true.....I can't seem to get any good recordings of mine, the low frequencies get cut out in the recording. I do like the sound of the Goliath, though.
