Yes, The Man stuck it to me for the first time in nearly two years.
I was driving along, minding my own business, when some guy on a Bimmer bike starts blinking some red and blue lights at me. I'm like, ok.. I'll get out of this fine gentlemans way so he can stop crime and make oregon more pretty and green. I was a little startled when he pulled over ext to me and said "good morning!"
So, I'm thinking "Hey, good morning! now that I'm not in front of you, can I go?" He says "I take it you didn't see those 25 mph signs comming over the bridge into town." I'm like "Huh?"
So appearantly I was doing 40 in a 25. In my honest deffense, The speedo in the accord has been acting very strange lately, and when I hit 60 mph, it jumps up to 90, and sits around 20 mph high until I stop. Well, I hadn't stopped, and I knew that the signs for 25 mph were there, but I really wasn't paying any attention to my speed. I figure the speedo said 40, which meant somewhere around 20-25. I guess for once, the speedo was right, and I was actually doing 40. :(
So I was curious if any of you locals to the northwest have any experiance with getting a traffic citation deferred. I had a typical teen record with a speeding ticket, a couple failure to obey a traffic device. And a few other infractions, but I've been perfectly clean since january of 2004. I really can't afford to have my insurance skyrocket again, and I'd like for the ticket to go away. If I could have a shop verify that my speedo is possessed, and have it fixed would that help? I turned 21 in may.. does that do anything to my benefit?
Thanks in advance for any help.

That sucks Jake :( I hate tickets, and I also hate when neighbours call the cops on you and then the cops show up at your house....

if you prove the speedo is posessed, theyll drop the ticket. its like when my friend got caught driving w/ an un-registered car, no insurance, and no I.D., he got the car registered under his name, went to couet, showed proof of insurance, proof of registration, and his valid drivers license, and got off w/ a "dont do it again"

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, Jake. I wouldn't exactly brag about being ticket-free since Jan. of '04, though. ;)

As far as my official record is concerned, I have no tickets or anything of that nature. That's all that counts.

yup. me too. i had one speeding ticket before, but it got dropped through the mail before i even had a court date for it. i just i told a good enough story to get out of it ;)

i think i said i was trying to catch up to my friend whos headlights were off to tell him that they were... and they probably checked the other tickets that day because he DID get a ticket for driving with headlights off at night. who knows, i dont care as long as it was dropped :O

i still got popped for some aftermarket stuff though and had to deal with that -_- now i dont have any real visual mods other than exhaust. even my engine bay looks stock except for the air filter.

Joe-What did you get cited for as far as mods go? Were you doing anything else to attract the unwanted attention? Do you think that just having rims, exhaust and a lowered stance [visible] will help keep the CHP off your ass? One last question-I don't think I've seen a silencer in your muffler and I would guess your car is fairly noisy. Have you had any problems with that as far as the law is concerned?

I'd like to know that stuff because my car just has that stuff visible and my exhaust is pretty loud. I drive quite responsibly, though, because I don't want all kinds of tickets and I like the cheap insurance rates that I pay.

not really. the real story was i going to a graduation party. i was following a friend who had directions and he was speeding. i couldnt get a hold of him by phone, he wouldnt answer, so i was keeping up with his pace. so of course when the cop saw is i was behind so i got pulled over... only visual stuff i had were exhaust and some gauges(i sold the gauges for that reason). my car isnt that loud on the freeway. it tones down alot at that speed.

honestly, as long as youre not doing anything to provoke you getting pulled over, like crazy driving or blowing off near cops or flooring it within earshot of a cop, you wont get hassled too much. other than that, ive never been pulled over again except for one cop who couldnt find my plates in his search for some reason... he was nice though and actually complimented me on my car

So you guys think if I can claim insanity on the speedo, get it fixed and get a reputable auto shop to back me up on both accounts, then I can get it dropped? Bear in mind that this was in my beater accord, NOT the supra. So i wasn't drawing any attention to myself or anything. I really have cleaned up my act, and I do drive responsibly. This morning the speedo started buzzing, and while goin 60 mph, it actually turned all the way around back to 10 mph! hopifully proving how psychotic it is now, and that I get it fixed should help me out...

Joe-Thanks a lot for the info, dude. From what you say I don't think I'll have much of a problem. I would bet that my exhaust is louder than yours, though. Hopefully that's not a big deal.

Jake,
Are you talking about the bridge into downtown Corvallis or one in Albany? I can't think of any speed changes down to 25mph in Albany anywhere... I live in Portland now but I graduated from OSU so I'm pretty familiar with the area.

It's corvallis Tom. Although coming in from highway 20 to albany has a similar slow down from 45 to 25 through downtown, near the Hasty Freeze. The signs are everywhere in Corvallis. I guess I just have to go REALLY slow. I honestly didn't think I was going 40, but my speedo is just plain old demented. Last night it worked perfectly, this morning... another story. But it's nice out, so I drove the Blupra to school today. Any of you guys have a problem with the BIC DDP rubbing on the third engine mount? (AKA tranny mount) We don't have a flex section, and it rubs like a mofo..

Yeah that's true, I forgot about the slow down into Albany off of 20. It's crazy to me that in this huge world that I can picture the exact block you are talking about. Are you going to fight the ticket or just pay it?

Edit: We've sold several of the BIC downpipes but I haven't heard about rubbing. Probably wouldn't be too tough to add a flex section in because there's only one bend if you think that would solve the problem.

I can hear my DDP rubbing underneath, only does it sometimes though.

My DDP doesn't rub, used the factory mount to stabilize it like the original downpipe was.

It wasn't that it needed stabilizing, It was just WAY too close (actually resting on) the tranny brace. I removed the brace and clearanced it over the weekend. I softened the TEINs a bit as well and the car is SOOO much nicer to drive now.
Tom, I intend to fight it. I'm getting a local shop to properly diagnose the "posessed-ness" of the speedo, then I'm replacing it and having them verify that the isuue has been remedied. What's wierd is how intermittent it is. All day today it's been perfect. On the way home, it will probably spazz out for no apperant reason.

Update!!!
So I was granted my right to a trial by Affadaivit, and now I must get consent from the officer to present my testimony via affadaivit.
I figured out the speedo problem, and it seems that the needle itself has broken free from the hub, so it sometimes follows the hub, and othertimes points wherever it feels. Typically, it gets vertical, and then the needle falls to the right, and lands at 100 or so and then sticks onto the hub at that point.
The problem I face now is "proving" that the speedo is bad via my testimony. I'm not sure if it is proper legal procedure to staple a picture of my broken speedo needle, pointing at 25 when the hub should be pointing it to 40, or if I should get a shop to file an invoice of an inspection stating such a problem and provide the invoice document number in my testimony, or what?
I'm only 21, and I'm not really savvy in what to do as far as legal rules go.
The county clerk wouldn't even tell me where to sign my affadaivit, as that would be giving legal advice.
Anyone want to give me legal advice?

Thanks Hero.
It turns out that the cop misplaced his notes for that particular day and requested that the citation be dropped, so it worked out great. Then the car got T-boned and slammed into a pole...
