Loki-Thanks for listing two bands twice and you're officially not even close to being cool because you listed Kanye West.
IHI-RHC7-Goatwhore isn't exactly what I'd call a good name for a band, but I'm really into their music. They're from New Orleans and play their own kind of black metal-ish-type stuff. If you're actually interested (probably not) I'll burn you a copy of one of their albums.
Skindred-I didn't expect anybody else to mention Kottonmouth Kings. What a pleasant surprise. ;)
So yeah, I'm pretty much into anti-commercial stuff. I enjoy it when people ask me who I listen to and they don't recognize much of what I mention.
I think that two of the best quotes concerning music are these (all though they're not grammatically correct):
"Everybody who ignored all these weak-ass f*ckin' trends, all these p*ssy-whipped f*ckin' ideas...f*ck 'em all (the music, not the people). 'Cuz you know why? The trend is dead (sang three times)...Thank f*ckin' God!"
"All right, well check this out...Our hit? This next song is our hit. You won't hear this next song anywhere but in your Goddamn car, at home or on this f*ckin' stage and that's the way it should be."
-Phil Anselmo-lead singer for Pantera and Down (amongst others)
Loki89t 11-08-2005, 06:42 PM Loki-Thanks for listing two bands twice and you're officially not even close to being cool because you listed Kanye West.
Oh well, I like the band alot. Maybe that's why I listed them twice, or maybe I just didn't notice. I like Kanye West's songs, I'm going to see him in concert in December and I don't care if you think I'm cool or not :snork_lac
Turbo-Joe 11-08-2005, 07:29 PM cool, loki.
i bet george bush won't be in attendencehttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v238/Turbo-Joe/lol.gif
SP 7M 11-09-2005, 06:11 AM Oh well, I like the band alot. Maybe that's why I listed them twice, or maybe I just didn't notice. I like Kanye West's songs, I'm going to see him in concert in December and I don't care if you think I'm cool or not :snork_lacI hope you got free tickets and you know damn well that you want me to think you're "teh awesome." :D
Loki89t 11-09-2005, 05:58 PM Nope, I payed for the tickets. I like almost all of his songs, and there are never any good concerts around so I figured why not.
Craig, I don't need you to think I am teh awesome, because I already know I am teh awesome :snork_tan
SP 7M 11-10-2005, 04:11 AM Craig, I don't need you to think I am teh awesome, because I already know I am teh awesome :snork_tanYour insecurity is showing through like never before. I can't even believe this.
Last night I bought a few new CDs-Watchtower's Energetic Disassembly, Infectous Grooves' Sarsippius' Ark and Pelican's self-titled EP. I might be getting an album from Om tonight-we'll just have to wait and see.

As a musician myself I'm not locked into one style or type of music (although I definitly prefer guitar driven rock). If it's good, it's good.
Personal opinion, Most rap sucks, no I take that back, almost all rap sucks :thumbdown . It takes no f'n talent. Flame me if you want but it sounds like shit, no melody, repetitive, and the lyrics are all the same i.e. Yo Yo Yo I got all the ho's jockin' my fly, I be slangin' driven my mbz, slapin' da bitches, look at me, look at me, look at me....
I'll pass.
SP 7M 11-14-2005, 08:56 PM Ok I wanta play, here goes:
(In no particular order)
most of what sp 7m likes (except the ones I dont recognize)+What don't you recognize?
I never get tired of hearing people say something to the effect of, "I've never heard of them," or, "Who is that?"
Loki89t 11-14-2005, 09:37 PM I don't recognize alot of those bands Craig.
SP 7M 11-15-2005, 03:13 PM I don't recognize alot of those bands Craig. That's cool. If you're interested in any, let me know. I'll see if I can't throw something together for you.
This might help:
Sleep-the Black Sabbath of the 90's with more stoner metal style
Bongzilla-doom/sludge/stoner metal with slow and deep riffs
Death-progressive/speed/thrash metal that requires amazing skill and has had several lineup changes, lead singer/guitar player wrote all lyrics and music and also wrote everything from Control Denied and played guitar with them
Alabama Thunderpussy-stoner metal from VA-slightly twangy at times
Eyehategod-doom/sludge metal from NOLA with highly abrasive lyrics
Venom-American black metal band that came out in the 80's
Goatwhore-black metal-ish band from NOLA
Soilent Green-kind of death metal-ish stuff from NOLA (same singer as Goatwhore)
High On Fire-newer, heavier project from Sleep's guitar player
Corrosion of Conformity-southern sludge metal with a strong Sabbath/Skynyrd influence
Weedeater-southern doom/sludge
Mystick Krewe of Clearlight-interesting blend of instrumental sludge/classic metal w/organs-some relate King Crimson's music to it
I'll try to give some info on more later. I've gotta get to work.
SP 7M 11-15-2005, 06:16 PM More on the fill-in side:
Acid Bath-doom-ish metal band from NOLA, members appear in other NOLA bands
Agents of Oblivion-singer and rhythm guitarist from Acid Bath, lighter heavy rock
Kyuss-stoner-ish heavy rock with Josh Homme (lead singer and guitarist from Queens of the Stone Age-they suck)
Body Count-thrash metal band with Ice T as the singer (remember "Cop Killer?")
Melvins-Sabbath-like band with comical lyrics
Scythe-death metal band with Larry Linkogle (co-founder of the Metal Mulisha) as bassist
Burning Inside-death metal band with the second [insanely talented] drummer from Death
Orange Goblin-Sabbath-ish stoner metal from England
Down-doom/sludge metal from NOLA, lead singer and bassist from Pantera, lead guitarist/singer from Corrosion of Conformity (guitar only w/Down), lead guitarist/singer from Crowbar (guitar only w/Down) and the drummer who also plays guitar in Eyehategod and Mystick Krewe of Clearlight
Crowbar-sludge/doom from NOLA, has had several lineup changes to include lead guitarist from Acid Bath and drummer from Black Label Society
Obituary-death metal from the 80's and 90's
Suicidal Tendencies-highly underrated thrash metal band
Mad Season-chill bluesy rock band from Seattle w/ lead singer from Alice In Chains and guitarist from Pearl Jam
Temple of the Dog-bluesy hard rock Seattle band w/ lead singer and drummer from Soundgarden, and lead singer, both guitar players and bassist from Pearl Jam
Mercyful Fate-thrash/black metal band with King Diamond as lead singer
King Diamond-less heavy than Mercyful Fate
Entombed-death metal-ish band from Sweden
Mr. Bungle-off the wall, truly original work with the lead singer from Faith No More
Children of Bodom-black/death metal band from Finland
Hopefully that helps some more.
Mike-I need to get into Ingwie Malmstein. My wife likes him and I know I will once I listen to his stuff.
SP 7M 11-15-2005, 06:28 PM This is Chuck Schuldiner (RIP) from Death and Control Denied. He was my second favorite guitar player and possessed inhuman talent.

Overkill
Napalm Death
Cannibal Corpse
Bloodhound Gang
White Zombie
Gadnium
Loki89t 11-16-2005, 07:07 PM Bloodhound Gang
White Zombie
Hooray for Boobies was an awesome album, and White Zombie kicks ass. As does Rob Zombie, he puts on such a good show. I saw him at Ozzfest '99 :snork_tan
SP 7M 11-17-2005, 05:54 AM Rob Zombie's solo project got too commercial and to sum it up, just plain crappy vs. what White Zombie put out. His remixes are horrible.
It's pretty much a rule that all remixes suck. That applies to all of what I listen to because I don't listen to remixes. I think it's funny that the cliche rap/hip hop/R&B remix announces during the song, usually repeatedly, that it's a remix.
Brayden-You need to check out Chuck Schuldiner. That's all there is to it.
dizahl 11-17-2005, 11:46 AM all right craig you ask for it so ask and you shall recieve

SP 7M 11-19-2005, 08:48 PM I don't know why I forgot to say it before but I can't f*cking stand 50 Cent. He probably annoys me more than any other rapper, singer, band, etc. that is (ugh) popular today.
I also think that all of the emo, screamo and "hardcore" bands are gay as hell. These pictures are worth far more than words. They're all "weak-ass, pussy-whipped f*ckin' trends."

I seem to have completly missed this post, oops. I'll check him out Craig. I like some of Rob Zombie's solo stuff, Dead Girl Superstar is an awesome song, and he's got some other good stuff too. I'm not really into remixes either.
SP 7M 11-20-2005, 02:03 AM what no System of the Down, on your list??If you're talking to me, then F*CK NO!
Brayden-I've got a handful of stuff that I think you'd like. I don't know if I can send stuff to Canada from here but once I get back to HI I'd be willing to send you a sample of what I'm talking about.
I know that some of you other guys would dig some stuff that I listen to that you've never heard of, too. Mike and Mark, you're both included.

Does anybody enjoy music because it's more than just listening enjoyment? I really like music that musicians put some serious heart into. I don't think that musicians that write "catchy" radio tunes actually give much of a shit about what they're writing, or in some cases, playing music that was written for them. It's all about what they can play to be commercial and make money-AKA sell out. A lot of the bands I listen to will never be heard on the radio and aren't about advertising the hell out of their music. Many of them don't make music to make money, as one Eyehategod album title somewhat eludes to: "Ten Years of Abuse and Still Broke." I'm not saying that they don't want to make money doing it, but they don't do it solely to make money. I feel that they have the attitude that they play what they like and if people want to buy it, then that's cool, too.
Does anybody else know what I'm talking about?
joel w. 11-22-2005, 05:30 PM well for me, i was the total heavy metal rocker in school. but as i got older melowed and turn the dial down a bit.. i still metal, but ive heard it all so much that it got old. i pretty much listed to some alt rock station from canada now.. nothing else comes in.. the bitch took all my cd collection when i booted her ass out. so i havent bought cd's since... as for a list, i like it all but county and rap crap, well gangsta rap... theres a few on your list im gonna have to listen to see if i recognize it...
besides i like to listen to the motor in the car...
Loki89t 11-22-2005, 08:04 PM I don't care weither the band puts serious heart into it or not, if I like the song I will listen to it and check out some of the other songs from the band. Doesn't matter to me, I listen to music because I enjoy listening to it.
If a band writes a song to sell out and make money, so what? if you had a choice to sell out and not have to ever worry about money again, or stay underground or whatever you call it and barely scrape by for the rest of your life, what would you do? I know what I'd do.
I wouldn't even care if everyone said I sold out, I'd be laughing all the way to the bank.
SP 7M 11-22-2005, 09:22 PM I don't care weither the band puts serious heart into it or not, if I like the song I will listen to it and check out some of the other songs from the band. Doesn't matter to me, I listen to music because I enjoy listening to it.

Care to list some of your top choices for metal bands, Joel?
joel w. 11-22-2005, 09:50 PM white zombie, metalica, iron maden, ozzy and sabath, dio, celtic frost, slayer, motorhead, judas priest, megadeth, Corrosion, ac/dc, scorpions, to name a few hard core..., plus halen, zeplin, floyd, hagar, stones, who, beatles, eagles, deep purple, steve miller... too many to list.

Look....this is me not caring :crazy01:
SP 7M 11-25-2005, 06:34 PM Look....this is me not caring :crazy01:LOL! You suck.
I really want to learn to play drums. I think what I'll do is wait until I get back to CA and mess around on a friend of a friend's set before I buy my own, though. I would say that I'd get a nice set of Pearl's if and when I do decide to. Instead of getting a double bass setup, I'll just get a double pedal. It's not like I'll have my own drum tech to keep them both in tune together.
Loki89t 11-25-2005, 06:38 PM My Mom's B/F plays drums and guitar and is awesome at both, I need to get better at guitar.....
dizahl 11-27-2005, 05:49 PM craig you ever heard ian van dahl? and yes we have the same last name.
SP 7M 11-29-2005, 06:53 PM I think you've got me there, Mark. It sounds faintly familiar, but not enough for me to say for sure that I've heard of him. So what's his deal?
Joel-You certainly do have a taste for heavy music, which is good. That's one for Celtic Frost. I've only heard a very small amount of their work, but I recognize their influence is in much of the music I listen to. It's good to see another Slayer fan, too. Do you have a favorite album or song by them or is that too hard of a decision for you, as it is for me? That's two for COC, also.
A couple bands: Sepultura (if I didn't list them yet), Mother Lovebone and Eazy E (not a band)

joel w. 11-29-2005, 07:31 PM favorite? ya i dunno now, probably show no mercy or reign in blood.. with megadeth i like peace sells, whos buying.. all the early metalica albums. i wore out 2 ozzy diary of a madman and probly 3 blizzard of ozz records... and guns and rosed and most the sabath , specially with (randy rhodes, best guitarist ever...) the welcome to the jungle album. several copies toasted... casset tapes even..that was back in highschool. almost 18 yrs ago though. thats even before CD's were out for some of you pups out there. i still have alot of collectable records, zepplin beatles all the kiss albums. for those about to rock album for acdc and high voltage records...lps still sound better
SP 7M 11-29-2005, 07:53 PM You're not the only one that I've heard that says vinyl has a better sound than CDs. I don't yet have enough of a basis for comparison to say either way.
I like all the Slayer albums except Undisputed Attitude, which I've heard is some punk tribute BS. I don't care enough to look into it. Show No Mercy and Reign In Blood are awesome albums. Those along with Seasons In The Abyss are my three favorites. They each have their own place in Slayer's history. Being that I'm a purist, I like the albums with Dave Lombardo on drums as opposed to Paul Bostaph, but they're both great drummers. I'm pleased to know that Dave Lombardo will be on the next album. I can't wait until it comes out. It's been a while-since 2001.
joel w. 11-29-2005, 08:17 PM its true.. my step dad is a huge music buff, he would record all his albums on old (BETA) tapes, before (VCR) tapes. no video, just music,, if you can ever even find a quality record player with bitchen speakers and a unscratched record. , try the test, cd vs record, will will hear some pops and whistles with the record on the downside, but you will hear much more sound from a record that you may not even hear on a cd. but there are some new formats out now that are definatly getting better in quality..
dizahl 11-29-2005, 09:43 PM I think you've got me there, Mark. It sounds faintly familiar, but not enough for me to say for sure that I've heard of him. So what's his deal?
actually its she, i knew you would be stumped on that one. i was at sam goodys and seen her cd having the same last name i had to check it out, its european techno which i enjoy for time to time, calms the beast in me r something. no really at the right times i kind of enjoy ian van dahl, god joes gayness is rubbing off on me :aiwebs_00
SP 7M 11-30-2005, 07:47 PM Stumped? Hardly. I just said I wasn't sure. Techno sucks anyway.
jbsupra89t 11-30-2005, 08:08 PM Tons of good bands thrown up there... I can't name all mine now, but just combine SP7M's and Loki's list and mine should be burried in there somewhere.

dizahl 11-30-2005, 10:20 PM :snork_abe don't be hatin craig, i love anything that has feeling, but you were right about rob zombies remixes they do suck, you have to be on some very VERY good drugs to like that. admit it you were stumbed :D
SP 7M 11-30-2005, 10:44 PM admit it you were stumbed :DI've never been stumbed in my life.
JB-You even listen to the bands that nobody else (here) has heard of?
dizahl 12-01-2005, 08:37 PM well craig its december how much longer before you're back home? looking forward to those music samples!!
SP 7M 12-01-2005, 11:08 PM I may be heading out of here on the 12th *fingers crossed* if I'm lucky. It's one of those things that isn't concrete until it's happening, if you know what I mean.
What samples would you like? I've got most of my CDs here.
Loki89t 12-02-2005, 07:19 PM I'm adding someone to my fav musician list under Guitarist, Singer, Songwriter - Connor Oberst from Bright Eyes.
SP 7M 12-04-2005, 06:41 PM I'm adding Allen West and Trevor Peres (guitar) and Donald Tardy (drums) of Obituary. Some good friendly death metal for ya there.
I once saw somebody on Amazon.com say that all metalheads are Satan worshippers. That's bullshit. I'm a firm believer in God, just FYI.
SP 7M 12-13-2005, 02:16 PM I just listened to my new Pelican CD last night as well as Infectious Grooves, As I Lay Dying and Trivium (my wife recently got a CD of the last two) and I'm down with all of them. AILD and Trivium are along the lines of "Metalcore" as far as a genre goes. I think they'll both take a little more getting used to, but at least they can actually pass for metalheads and don't look like fags at all.
SP 7M 12-16-2005, 05:15 PM I recently sampled Place of Skulls, The Hidden Hand, Internal Void (avatar) and Sons of Otis (not the first time) and I put some of their albums on my Christmas list. I can't wait until I own them and can jam to the whole songs.
Loki89t 12-16-2005, 06:52 PM I bought a double Sublime CD on the weekend, it may be the best cd purchase I have ever made. I love Sublime, easily one of my favourite bands ever!
SP 7M 12-19-2005, 06:59 PM I've listened to both of them before, but I've just become more fond of Morbid Angel and The Allman Brothers. My wife recently bought an Allman Bros. double CD and she probably has all of Morbid Angel's CDs.
