: Poll; Soapra or Suproarer? take a look...

well, here is what i want to create next;

http://www.firesport.com/cars/wtf/WTF.html

Here is the 180*, complete opposite which some people already know of;
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v150/onebad7m/soaprasig.jpg

what i want to do is take this car;
http://soarer.ne.jp/off-line-meeting/off-report/report-data/pictures/kinki/kansai-31/ks30-05.jpg
http://www.clublexus.com/gallery/data/502/aerocabin3.jpg

and put this front end on it;
http://firespeed.org/garage/car/car10/supra_003.jpg

My main reasoning behind this is, because i want to have a really powerful car, but i dont want to have weak chassis that is going to dog-walk down the street when im under full boost... and i dont want to have to rely on a 6-point cage to maintain chassis rigidity on the street. first and foremost, im building a STREET CAR, daily driver... not a race car. i DONT want a roll cage in my car. now, with a lift back car, the chassis rigidity is less than desireable without a supporting roll cage or internal bracing. i can improve it with seam welding and gusseting. but, if i seam weld and gusset a coupe-chassis, itll be that much stronger. the fact that the MZ20 soarer is already fitted with a 7MGTE, that makes it ideal for my ultimate project car. and, also the fact that the car is a TWO door, rather than the 4-door that the Cressida is, ill have a lighter and more compact package. also, the fact that this is a sister to the A70 liftbacks means that virtually all of the underpinnings, interior and mechanical bits almost all interchange with the Z20 chassis.

so, ill have a stronger and potentially lighter platform to work with than the A70. the only downside i see is that ill have this gay, cressida-ish, fixed headlght front end that i dont particularly care for. i much prefer the sleek and raked front end of the A70 vehicles. so, i would love to graft the MK3 front end onto the Soarer vehicle to create my Dream Toyota.

what do you guys think about it?

im a purist baby...id rather just have the normal mk3 chassis...but if i were to make the swap...which i doubt i would...i would be a nuthanger and have the soarer front on the mk3 chassis :swing:

I'm an unmolested A70 fan, but the Soapra has my vote beyond that. Jose's car is pretty sweet. The Soarer looks better left alone, too.

You have horrible taste, Chris. ;)

supra or soapra.

I like the MKIII just the way it is. But this is your choice, not mine. So do what you want to do, not what others say to do.

Their was a guy that put a 7m in a tacoma and called it taco soup, hehe. Also locally here in nashville there is a sc300 powered by a j-spec 2jz,(I already snagged the greytop injectors, so don't ask.) And it is called the SCupra both were hand made decals that looked great. As for you, I would vote on the SOAPra, suproarer has too many syllables and would end up with a nickname soup, a;though the lazy ones would say soap for the other name anyways. Personally, the SOUPra wouldn't sound bad.

A70 purist here, but I do like the Suproarer. Do it Flubbers. The Soarers tail lights are cool, I like how it says "Toyota Soarer" in the middle of the lights :snork_ham

yeah, i really do like the shape and the style of the A70, unmolested... but the liftback design has its flaws and i see a way that i can work around it.

if im going to go with function over form, i can try to keep some semblance of Supra by grafting the front end onto it. its my way of creating a Supra coupe that toyota never bothered to make.

i could call it the SupCoupe, or Notchback Supra, or Supra-Trunk, or Supra-suitcase, or Supra-boot.

the original soapra is neat because its unique and untraditional. but, personally, the fixed headlight design isnt sleek enough for my tastes. the 89+ front end of the Supra is quite possibly one of its finest aspects and id like to keep that feature.

technically, its more about the structural rigidity afforded by going with a coupe rather than aesthetics. if it was based SOLELY on Aesthetics, the original A70 would be my first choice, the Soapra and soarer would be last on my list out of the 4 options... like i said, those Cressida-ish headlights simply dont evoke the "wow" reaction i get out of seeing the sleek and squinty front end of an 89+ supra.

You'll still be eliteless no matter what you choose to do.

Brewster-The whole reason of Chris' poll is for others to decide what he will do.

actually, the whole reason of the post is for me to up my post count under the presumption that im trying to attain the opinions of other members' personal tastes. however, i couldnt care less as to what other people thnk or like, cuz im dead set on building my Sup-roarer... but, thanks for giving me opportunities to up my post count under the pretext of me actually giving a shit what you guys think ;)

I prefer an untouched soarer, I think they look very unique and classy.

I think if you were able to put a widebody kit on the ass-end of the soarer it would look sweet! The supra looks a lot wider than the soarer. Kinda like Dolly Parton, ain't got no ass for the size of the breasts.

yall cant hate!

you are right about the narrowness of the soarer. i think the ass of the soarer would need some wide fenders to go with the supra fenders... it would look as if its "top-heavy" like dolly parton.

the soarer is a bit classy by itself, i thnk its moreso than a cresta/cressida/chaser simply because its a 2 door coupe. a 4door is too much for me to attempt to go fast in. i will build a jzs161 Aristo, but just for cruising... like an M5 eater ;)

yeah, thats right. most people dont even understand how their opinion is wrong.. it takes a bit of an explanation, but afterwards, they see it my way ;) lol

i wish i could find out the nitty gritty details on what had to be done to get the soarer front end on OneBad7M's car... then, i would at least be able to go into it prepared and know what to expect...

absolutely, im sure ill have good information to post up about fitment issues and whatever steps i need to take to make shit work. right now, im in planning stages and even trying to assess whether or not this will be a good choice. im working on flipping a few things to make some money to build the proper power plant that would ultimately find a home in the soarer. id much rather a chassis-twisting 1000hp in a coupe platform than my liftback supra. i think, for my supra, ill do a 2jz swap and go bpu and make it my "Slow" car ;) seems like a great way to piss off MKIV/2jz elitists.

well, we are better than everyone. the MKIV's are "godly" to the import car culture that happens to know a piston from their ass. and the MKIV's wouldnt be what they are if toyota hadnt made the MK3. if the MK3 never was, they wouldnt have learned shit.

the fixed headlights on a MK3 does look a bit out of place. im not sure if its like a mustang or what... maybe a little bit. at least its not like a silvia front end on a 240sx hatch... here is a little gif that someone on our local board made... pretty much sums it up.
