: Do you like guns? How about carbon fiber?
El Cid 10-26-2005, 07:11 AM How about both? :D

Pics don't do the grips justice. They are from here (http://www.carboncreations.com).
SP 7M 10-26-2005, 07:27 AM Guns are good. I don't know a lot about guns as a whole, but I'm a mean shot with the M16 and the Beretta M9 and I know a fair amount about both of them. Shortly after my wife and I move back to CA I'd like to get a pistol for each of us. Right now I'm thinking I'd like to get either Ruger or Glock .45s, but I need to do more research on brands before I get them. I know that the grips on Glocks are too big for my wife's hands. She's shot a 9mm and a .45 before but I don't know what brand they were. We both dig guns.
What's the point of having carbon fiber grips?

El Cid 10-27-2005, 07:57 AM LOL! Nah, grips on a pistol are one of the few areas that you can customize and easily swap out. These are "pretty" with the CF pattern and 3D look, but they are also functional and the checkering provides more grip than the OEM ones it came with. Don't worry... I won't use the normal "they save weight" arguement here. ;) :D

Oh, and fit of the hand is the number one thing to consider when buying a handgun.
My personal preferences, based on 21 years of shooting and 12 years of CCW is that Ruger and S&W make fantastic revolvers... I would never choose to own/carry one of their semi-auto pistols though (unless the only choice was no firearm at all). Their fit, function and reliability is not up to the standards of life-support equipment in my opinion. I've seen a Ruger P90 45ACP that was putting dings in the primer of the chambered round when it was decocked. The placement of the safeties on their autos (as well as most Berettas) does not work well under stress and can be impossible to reach if the shooter has short fingers.
Many ranges also rent guns... no better way to figure out what works for you than to try them out.
Turbo-Joe 10-27-2005, 02:30 PM i dont like guns
WarpDriveKid 10-27-2005, 05:51 PM I like guns and plan on getting something nice. But first heavy homework will be envolved to find the right gun. Glock seems the be the auto of choice, being lightweight and will not heat up if ever in a fire. Extremes but at least you know it can stand the wear and tear. 40ca. or 9mm, still on the fence. Walther, also makes a nice pieces. hope the spelling is right. :)

SP 7M 10-27-2005, 10:02 PM What's the point of the carbon fiber center console cover?Don't ask me. I don't have one nor do I care to have one.
Thanks for the input El Cid. I've got a friend with a nice collection of guns and he has two Ruger .40s. I don't remember what model they are but I think he had a slight modification done to them. I think I remember him telling me it was something about chambering the round more smoothly.
I'll be sure and do plenty of research before I choose to buy them.
Brewster 10-28-2005, 12:22 AM I'm going to buy a WWII surplus bolt action pretty soon. Not old enough to buy a pistol..
SupraMan1784 10-28-2005, 08:22 AM the only guns i got are on my arms....sometimes people call them pythons... i do get a gun imma go james bond style wit some walter ppks so i can get the :tweetz: and the :respekt:
SP 7M 10-28-2005, 08:50 AM What's the largest gun any of you have shot?
It's the XM218 .50 cal machine gun for me.
SupraMan1784 10-28-2005, 09:45 AM beretta 9mm hahaha cause my friend used to be a security guard...now thats wut i call a big boy gun
SP 7M 10-28-2005, 10:18 AM Oh yeah, that's some alarming firepower there. ;)
SupraMan1784 10-28-2005, 01:20 PM hahaha ya damn right son...ya better watch yourself cause when its time...ull be lookin like this
SP 7M 10-29-2005, 03:49 AM That thing has insane kick to it.
I've heard of people in the military saying they need a more-powerful pistol because the people that they shoot are getting back up to fight too often. The M9 also has had some feeding problems. I think that there are a few different companies that the military buys magazines from and some of them are total crap, causing the gun to jam frequently. I think that a weak spring was part of the problem.
SP 7M 11-04-2005, 04:58 AM We need to talk more about guns.
Do away with gun control. I do believe in strict laws when it comes to owning a gun, but this is America! The fifth is there for a reason. When it comes to guns, Texas' laws are great.
dizahl 11-16-2005, 11:30 AM el cid thats a S&W w/the carbon fiber grip right, Craig the ruger p90 45.cal is great a little costly to shoot but a blast to have. i am more a shotgun kind of guy altough i do love my rifles. a ak47 or a ar-10 r my favorite to shoot just because they are durable (ar-10) and r cheap to shoot (ak).
dizahl 11-16-2005, 11:35 AM or maybe el cids hand gun is a colt? i know fro sho its a 1911
SupraMan1784 11-16-2005, 11:37 AM i shot a nail gun once
joel w. 11-16-2005, 11:43 AM i built my ar-15 from bag o parts.. (the evil black rifle) when the ban was lifted recently. i slapped a cheap scope on it and its actually damm accurate at 100-500 yrds. i was way impressed, and 30rd mags are so damm fun...
:biggun2:
dizahl 11-16-2005, 11:47 AM ar-15's are sweet for a 223. but a 308. ar-10 is even better,a ruger mini-14 is a kickass 223. i used to use a nail gun all day everyday thats not too impressive supraman
joel w. 11-16-2005, 11:54 AM ar-15's are sweet for a 223. but a 308. ar-10 is even better,a ruger mini-14 is a kickass 223. i used to use a nail gun all day everyday thats not too impressive supraman
ya well when you shoot alot you see that ammo is expensive. .223 is cheapest army surplus ammo out there. when you got 10) 30rd mags to fill it ads up... and it will also go thru a bullet proof vest. not that thats a good thing. but ya never know...
dizahl 11-16-2005, 12:01 PM yeah 223 ammo is cheap 308's aren't real bad thats why i like my ak cheap to shoot and can take a beating. :crazy01:
joel w. 11-16-2005, 12:21 PM ya cant say ive shot an AK so i dunno, but ive read that they are stamped steel and sloppy tolerences which does tend to make them reliable yes, but not accurate. my ar is CNC machined and very accurate. but i got to keep it clean for it to work , they say,,,..well i got about 900 rds through it and no misfires or jams..
dizahl 11-16-2005, 12:34 PM damn thats an impressive ar-15, my ar-10 hasn't jammed yet but i haven't even shot it 200 times yet. ak-47s not very accurate at all, you are right about the sloppy tolerances i have seen them covered in sand and mud still shot great.
joel w. 11-16-2005, 12:53 PM ya ak been around long time. definately battle proven.. , i had a glock 22 that you could pack with sand and it shoot all day. and ive read they will even shoot under water but was always too scared to ever try it..
dizahl 11-16-2005, 08:56 PM i would have to try it just once, then instantly breakit down and clean it.
SP 7M 11-17-2005, 05:19 AM i built my ar-15 from bag o parts.. (the evil black rifle) when the ban was lifted recently. i slapped a cheap scope on it and its actually damm accurate at 100-500 yrds. i was way impressed, and 30rd mags are so damm fun...
:biggun2:You need a scope to shoot 100-500 yards? What?! :eusa_hand LOL!
Mark-For pistol brands I'm currently interested in Ruger, Glock, S&W, Colt and Sig. I know that I haven't really narrowed it down yet, but I've got time and I will do my homework before making my purchases. I do like the Colt 1911.
My roommate has a nice collection of guns, though we've only talked about his Ruger .40s (he has two). From what I can tell, he likes those a lot. He's from Houston and his dad used to be a cop so that's how I know how cool TX's gun laws are.
joel w. 11-17-2005, 07:50 AM my ar-15 is a flat top upper reciever with out open sights, so ya...I admit i can not even see a pop can at 500 yrd without a scope.. just gettin old i guess. :so:
dizahl 11-17-2005, 11:05 AM Craig i love the rugers i have, highly recommend them, have had some jamming problems with my s&w 9 mm, must be kept VERY clean, great shooter otherwise
SP 7M 11-17-2005, 07:57 PM my ar-15 is a flat top upper reciever with out open sights, so ya...I admit i can not even see a pop can at 500 yrd without a scope.. just gettin old i guess. :so:Well you need open sites then. I probably couldn't even see a pop can (that's right, pop) from 500 yards. I was thinking more along the lines of a target of a body from there.
Mark-One more point for Ruger. I'll have to look into them further.
joel w. 11-17-2005, 10:33 PM cant beat pop cans, $2 for 12 reactive targets.. harder to hit and they explode when ya do...
i can get open sights. but im just a scope kinda guy..
SP 7M 11-18-2005, 01:56 AM What position do you shoot in from 500, Joel?
joel w. 11-18-2005, 07:53 AM for that distance, if i want to hit anything, i have to shoot prone or sitting at at a bench using a sand bag as a rest. other wise im all over the place..
SP 7M 11-19-2005, 08:21 PM Do you use a sling to help make yourself more steady, too? That makes a big difference.
joel w. 11-19-2005, 08:28 PM i have on my 300 weatherby, ya it helps, but that guns a cannon...This ar is so light and there is hardly any recoil.. i dont use it for hunting so i havent bought the strap yet.. its just for plinking at the range.. and home land security..
SP 7M 11-19-2005, 09:08 PM ...and home land security...That's what I like to see.
joel w. 11-19-2005, 09:57 PM ya i like to be prepared, Its better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it...
El Cid 11-21-2005, 07:45 AM Got a "little brother" for my P14 in the beginning of this thread. :)

Despite what some Aussies may think... guns are not evil. :eusa_eh:
SP 7M 11-25-2005, 06:42 PM I did some looking at a magazine yesterday and I really like what I see from Ruger's collection of .45s. I dig the P90, which it turns out my roommate owns two of, and I also took a likin' to the P97 and P345. The prices really aren't bad on Rugers, either. I think they're all around $600 or less.
I can't wait until my wife and I own our own hand guns. It'll be fun going to ranges and doing yet another thing that we both enjoy. The protection factor will be nice, too.
dizahl 11-27-2005, 06:40 PM taurus is also a great brand of guns, great shooting, durable and very low priced compared to S&W or even Ruger, so also check them out too craig
SP 7M 11-29-2005, 05:27 PM I'll see about them, too, Mark. Thanks for the help.
SP 7M 12-04-2005, 08:03 PM I want these. They're both .45s. :eusa_droo

joel w. 12-04-2005, 08:11 PM nice guns, just stay away from the S&W 40. glock knockoff.. its junk..misfires, jams, breached cartriges and omg last time i shot it, the hammer stayed back like it was empty, but it still had a round in the mag that loaded when i hit that hammer release... very unsafe in my oppinion. i read about guns for months before i bought my glock. dozens of sites on the net claiming to have fired over 100,000 Rnds with no misfires or jams or any issues.. i was sold..
SP 7M 12-04-2005, 09:03 PM I've also read some reviews (all rave) about both of those bad lads. The P90 has been around since '91 and is tried and true. The P345 is from '04 and was selected for Guns and Ammo Magazine's "10 Best" guns for '04 or something of that nature. I haven't yet held either of them to check the feel, etc., but from what I've read those are what I like the best.
joel w. 12-04-2005, 09:06 PM ya ive never read anything bad about them so you should be fine.. havent shot one, but the feel sweet...
dizahl 12-04-2005, 11:00 PM p90 is ohh soo sweet.
SP 7M 12-06-2005, 01:57 AM What do you know about it?
dizahl 12-06-2005, 04:44 PM i've shot 2 of them and have broke one down and cleaned it. love the way they shhot and the feel and control of the p90. very reliable, shot 200 rounds+ out of one of those very consist, my S&W would have jammed several times.
SP 7M 12-06-2005, 11:36 PM That's good to know, Mark. Thanks for the feedback on it.

We were only allowed to shoot six shots a day, shooting more can mess up your internals ;) - definately the loudest noise i've ever heard!

Hagar 05-10-2006, 10:29 AM i'm from the uk and only cops and bank robbers have guns over here. do you all have guns or is that just rubbish they put on the tv. this is the first thread on a car website where i don't have a clue about anything on the last three pages.
boostin89 05-11-2006, 04:53 PM Yeah we all have guns, at least in california everyone i know has at least one or two. You guys are creepin me out with this carbon fiber gun talk... I hate guns.
