: Tire Question
mrnickleye 10-23-2005, 11:38 PM When I got my supra 3 yrs ago, it came with Falken tires, stock rims and size. The receipt was in the glove box. They lasted about 25k miles. I could not find any around here, so I went with Kumho Ecsta 711's. They only last for 10k miles on rear (2 sets now),& 20k on front. Nice even wear, 4 wheel alignment is good.
I just saw some Falken's on sale at Sears for $86 each. Has anyone used them?? What's your opinion?? The Sears guy said they are rated highly, and are 30k mile tires.
mrnickleye 10-24-2005, 05:14 PM Now I think I might get these Hankook Ventus V4 ES H105
225/55R-16 99V XL VB
They have a better/longer wear life. Anyone try them before??

flubyux2 10-25-2005, 12:52 AM if you drive your car in the rain, get some BFG KDW's. if you dont give a shit about wet traction, get the KD's. they are great tires. so are the Michelin Pilot Sports. they are pretty sticky tires.
another tire ive never heard of untill now, is Marangoni. i happend to pick one up used at a local tire joint. its a 255/40/17. its on my rx7 now, and when the tire gets to operating temp, you can hear all the rocks and pebbles that stick to the tire when they are slung into the wheel well. they are made in italy, and i wouldnt mind picking up a full set to try on the RX7.
SupraMan1784 10-25-2005, 07:05 AM hell yea...michelin pilot sports and the bf goodrich kd models...theyre nice tires...i also use the nitto tires...theyre pretty good..marangoni? sounds like it belongs on a ferrari
flubyux2 10-27-2005, 05:26 PM yeah, wouldnt surprise me. most of the "used" tires that this guy gets are from Europe. so they come off wrecked cars and such. this tire i have has about 75% tread left and it was $60 installed/balanced. a 255/45/17. not bad really.
the Nittos arent too bad, at least the 555R's, the rest of them are junk. the stock tires on the STi's are really good. i think they are Advan A032R's, but im not 100% sure.
forcefedsupra 10-27-2005, 09:02 PM I got the Hankooks. Great traction dry or wet, long lasting. I am very happy with them and I push 'em pretty hard.

Falken's are one of the best high mileage tires available for high horsepower cars IMO, just not too well known. They are made in Japan or at least they used to be. Sears is the major dealer for them but you can get them at other chain tires stores too. If you are looking for a tire that will last on a high horsepower car buy the Falken. By the way what is the model number of the Falkens that are on sale???
SupraMan1784 10-28-2005, 07:59 AM i like the advans from yokohama...my friend had them on his s2k when i drove it around...theyre some nice tires...but a little pricey...
SP 7M 10-28-2005, 09:23 AM Both my dad and I have Bridgestone Potenza RE750s and we're very happy with them. They've got a 340 treadwear rating, which is pretty good for high performance tires and I'm all about their traction in dry and wet conditions. I highly recommend them.
I suppose one could call me a Bridgestone guy since this is my fourth set from their lineup. I've used the RE950 on sawblades, RE020 (?) on MKIV TT rims and I believe it was the Blizzak WS15 (they kick so much ass) on sawblades on my old NA for a couple of MI winters.
I also like some of the Advan tires that are becoming more readily available in the US, although I've never used them.
Suprattop 10-28-2005, 03:01 PM I've got a set of Toyo Proxes 4 tires on my MK2 (235/40 front & 255/40 rear) with custom 17x8 and 17x9 ROH Snyper wheels (CS.com group buy in '04). The Toyos are VERY good in wet weather and are excellent on dry roads, and also have a 300 treadwear rating. I'll be getting a set of Toyo T1-R's for my MK3 when the time comes to replace 'em. Need better grip for the MK3!! ;)
Suprageezer 10-28-2005, 04:39 PM Something I learned a long time ago. There's NOTHING between your butt and the road but tires, so no matter how cheap you go on your car and everything else NEVER go cheap on tires. They might save your life one day. I've bought nothing but Goodyear top of the line performance tires since I did 360's in the fast lane at 55mph on the freeway in the rain when I was 19 way back. Currently I’m running 245/50-16 F1's on stock wheels with Suspension Techniques sway bars. This car handles and handling has always been what I'm into. Also for those who have trouble with your tires hooking up on acceleration from a stop, you won’t be doing mile long burnouts with these tires.

ma71supraturbo 10-28-2005, 05:37 PM Falken has some excellent tires, some OK tires, and some "blah" tires. The ones you are looking at fall into the later category (I think they're called 512 or 212). The good ones are the Azenis Sports and 615s
mrnickleye 10-29-2005, 01:05 AM Well...I've settled on Yokohama Avid V4S. $96 ea at Americas Tire Store here in town. I'll let you all know how they are after I run them awhile. 500 wear rating.

supraman2251 10-31-2005, 12:58 PM what tires are good for snow? lastyear, I ran kumho 712's w/ about 50% tread left and it was a little too fun, if you know what I mean, so I'm lookin for some good tires for snow and dry pavement.

for snow I like the blizzaks. They won't last or grip well in dry (compared to a summer tire)
The Great Tougini 10-31-2005, 01:06 PM i have had the falken azenis st115 (d1 spec) on my 91 N/A. and loved every monent of them... great tires! i had them on the stock 5 spoke star rims. im a noob when it comes to supra stuff so any help is greatly appreciated. i have just purchased the kumho ecsta mx tire in a 225 50 16. so far they are pretty awesome. my car hooks up faster and from what i can tell (i havent taken it out in the hills yet) they should handle as good or better than the azenis. they were $ 105 at the tire rack but it took them forever and a half to get them to me...ive got them on now and when i go for a drive i will post something up about them.
CassMori 11-01-2005, 08:28 PM I've got Falkens on now (luck of the draw - got some 512's with the front wheels, good deal on used for the rear 502's). But I like them so well, I bought a full set of 502's for it to replace them. Even with my alignment/worn out front end parts problems, and the rears being well used when I got them, I've put about 15.5k on the front, about 12k-13k on the rear, with no problems at all. Even almost completely smooth, the rears (275/45/17) still get good wet traction (unless I boost past ~10psi in 3rd ;) ). The fronts have held up well, except for wear on the insides due to worn front end components. One caveat: I don't race. Just normal driving. So I can't give an opinion on these tires for that purpose. Quite a bit of highway miles(450-500/wk), some curvy roads at higher-than-legal speeds, rain, snow (light) - these tires have been great. But for drag/auto-x/drift/whatever, you'll have to ask someone else for that :D
