: Engine Coolant Light
7MGTESUPRAMAN 10-18-2005, 01:41 PM When I start my car in the morning I notice that the engine coolant light is on, but after I drive it for a while the light will go out. What do you guys think is the problem, BHG in first stages or what? When I had my 89 N/A that was the first sign I notice of the BHG but the engine coolant light stayed on instead of going out.
SupraMan1784 10-18-2005, 01:49 PM i say check the coolant level first...if its low...add more, the splashing the container might be messin with teh sensor, if thats not the case...then let us know
7MGTESUPRAMAN 10-18-2005, 01:58 PM it was low when i checked it a couple of days ago and i added more but it has started again that's why i'm kinda leading towards the BHG.

If you're frequently refilling your reservoir, then you could have a BHG.
On the other hand, is your radiator cap in good shape? A bad cap can lead to coolant loss.
kwnate 10-18-2005, 06:14 PM When you start up you cold car the resevoir is empty as the car heats up your resevoir will fill up and the light will turn off. Could be a BHG, but most likely its a coolant leak. Check all the hoses, not just the heater and radiator but the throttle body line etc. I had a small leak in a hose near the throttle body and also my heater core leaks... I always thought BHG but so far I've been lucky.

Radiator cap is less than a year old, I'll have to check I would rather it be a radiator cap than a BHG

Might be a coolant leak I had to replace some coolant hoses this year already. I will have to check the other hoses near the throttle body and the heater core.
SupraMan1784 10-19-2005, 08:48 AM yea make sure all the hose connections are tight, and u def. would rather have it be the radiator cap than a bhg...pretty much anything but a bhg, but i think its a leak...if the cap is less than a year old i doubt its the problem but check it anyways...but most likely its teh hoses...might have to change them again or its just a bad connection
7MGTESUPRAMAN 10-19-2005, 09:45 AM when i started the car up today the engine coolant light was not on and i checked the hoses for any leaks but i did not find any but when i drove it going into turns the light came on then went off so i'm going to fill the resevoir up some and drive it and see what i can come up with. i'm thinking that it might be a leak somewhere, since i had to replace some of the other coolant lines
7MGTESUPRAMAN 10-25-2005, 06:42 PM well I had to replace the two small hoses on the back of each valve cover behind the 3000 pipe and now the hoses that connects the 3000 pipe to the throttle body has cracked, but the engine coolant light has not came back on yet hopefully that's what was causing the engine coolant light to come on
boostin89 05-20-2006, 01:47 AM I know this post is old, but im having that same problem so i'll check my hoses tomorrow and see whats up. I'll report details after im done... Hope its a hose. :aiwebs_00
supramacist 05-24-2006, 01:36 AM check the engine coolant overflow. mine consistantly has oil in it. so other than that I have no ideas as to what else to say. Just always hoping someone will tell me why it does this. Matter of fact mine came out today while driving and threw fluid all the way to the top of my roof. I cleaned it promptly and then took it to the wash. After that I zip tied the tube to the inline. We'll see how long that lasts.
boostin89 05-24-2006, 10:56 AM Oil in the coolant usually means BHG, is that an option or have u already repalced a bhg lately?

It sounds like a bhg; afterall, where else would the oil come from?
My coolant loss was caused by the retaining clamps on the rad pipes failing. This only happended once the pressure built up in the cooling system; so luckily not a bhg this time.

Is your an auto? If it is check the oil level in the transmission I have seen them where the trans oil cooler in the bottom of the rad has leaked oil into the rad this also gives high pressure in the cooling system if the oil is a murky brown colour and smells like trans fluid this is where I would look becareful if water gets in to the transmission it can be expensive. just a word of warning :aiwebs_00
supramacist 05-25-2006, 01:07 AM I keep a close eye on everything. My hg leaks juast a teany bit, so I don't flex for just anyone. I'm planning on doing the hg change over myself and soon. Matter of fact, in the next few weeks if all is slated properly. I have my brother coming up from arkansas to help me. He drives a saturn, don't laugh. for a 4cyl. it runs out better than any honda I have ever been in.
