: Hurricanes a'comin!
flubyux2 10-18-2005, 01:57 AM sooo.. a hurricane is projected to hit florida. i betcha $10 we recover before new orleans does.
everyone likes to make fun of florida for having all these hurricanes... as if every other state would handle hurricanes better than we do. shit, you can throw 7 hurricanes at us in one summer and we'd recover faster than any other state would from just ONE hurricane! we got this shit down to a science.
florida may get "owned" by hurricanes... but at least our shit gets fixed and taken care of!
cone of uncertainty = cone of death!
suprra_girl 10-22-2005, 04:08 AM well i'm glad that you are lookin on the positive side, when i heard bout that one heading for ya i was actually concerned for all of you supra owners there
hope it doesn't ever get there tho

Yea, I love living in Portland, Oregon and paying to rebuild everybodies houses down there each year. Near the southern coast, they should make a rule you can only build homes out of brick and must use a specially designed roof. I'm sure some of that is already done, but the mobile home thing has got to be outlawed. It's only going to get worse, and the hurricaines are going to continue to increase our budget deficit.
Chris.
flubyux2 10-23-2005, 02:37 AM yeah, i love florida. every part of the country has its qualities and its qualms. i dont think i could handle the northwest because of the frequent dankness and excessive rain. i like the sun and the warmth and whatnot that florida has. the hurricanes arent all that bad. its only bad when... oh, you know... LIVE BELOW SEALEVEL. it doesnt help anything if you spend your water pump maint. budget frivilously and only have a fraction of them in working order anyways. youre just asking for trouble that way. i gotta hand it to ol Jeb bush, he handles this hurricane stuff well. Florida may get slammed with hurricanes every year, but at least we can deal with the shit.
the weather actually gets pretty nice when the hurricanes get near. it cools off to about 80ish in the day time and 75ish at night, decent breeze. its PERFECT weather to cruise in w/ the targa off.
i personally wouldnt ever want to live in a house down here that wasnt cinder block/brick construction and spanish tile roof. shingles fly away in 40mph winds, and the humidity wreaks havoc on wood framing. i dont know how people think its a good idea to build wood framed houses w/ shingle roofs... wtf mate.
Tony! 10-26-2005, 07:10 PM Hmm, well I was thinking that cinder blocks with bars of steel in them would be kickass, but I guess that would be rather pricey I suppose. Houses in southeast Florida are very pricey as is--and have risen 25% in the last year despite the new hurricane trend.
One of my friends within the Supra community now lives in West Palm Beach. Before Wilma came I told him that it would weaken because it would have to cross the entire state to get to the east coast. But then I seen what Wilma did to Ft Lauderdale, which is on the east coast, and I am surprised it did not weaken as much as I thought it would before crossing the state. Maybe factors that kept it strong for the other side of the state were because it moved so fast and because Florida is so flat--and that does not help a hurricane decay as fast as mountainous areas would.
Here's hoping projectsupra's car did not have a tree fall on it or get flooded!
EDIT: to add below
Anyone suffer any damages from this storm? (Meaning the Floridian Supra folks we know.)
flubyux2 10-27-2005, 04:13 PM yeah, the hurricanes dont seem to weaken very much when they come on-shore down here. they drop maybe 1 category or so when crossing side to side. but if it goes on shore and then up the coast, it may drop down a bit more and weaken.
i didnt see any supras on the hurricane footage, but i did see a tree sitting on top of a 1G Talon TSI. not sure if it was AWD or not, but definitly white w/ the stock swirly wheels. it was defnitly a 90-91 also. i feel bad for that guy. it hit miami and ft. lauderdale, i would imagine that there are a good deal of supra owners down that way. hopefully they garaged their cars or left. i mean, it took like 4 days to get from mexico to here, so its not like they didnt have enough time. its hard to feel bad for the people who are on the east coast and are stuck with no power, food, water or ice... i mean, shit, Wilma moved 5 goddamn MPH and took 3 days to cross the freakin Gulf. im sorry, but thats their own fault if they didnt heed the warning and take precautions.
SP 7M 11-02-2005, 09:43 AM Hurricanes are yet another reason why Florida sucks donkey dick.
flubyux2 11-02-2005, 03:49 PM everyone gets so worked up over a Bad rain storm... ill telll you what, id much rather take sunny florida over miserable blizzards, frostbite, stagnant hot air, earthquakes, cold arctic currents in the ocean, smog, smog nazis, "Dry heat", or miles and miles of NOTHING in sight.
florida owns all. if it sucked so bad, people wouldnt flock here at any given point in the yeah.

flubyux2 11-03-2005, 09:56 AM any place in the great lakes/ north east area, southeast inland area, california, california, california and any other desert/mountain state in the west, or the midwest like OK, where there is nothing as far as the eye can see.
SP 7M 11-04-2005, 03:45 AM any place in the great lakes/ north east area, southeast inland area, california, california, california and any other desert/mountain state in the west, or the midwest like OK, where there is nothing as far as the eye can see.LOL! I was born in Orange, CA, lived there for about 1.5 years, then lived in MI for almost 18 years of my life. I know what you mean about MI being inhospitable at times. Usually February through some of April was crappy. I really loved the fall weather there and I really got into the snow until about late January or early February. The temperature range I experienced while living there was from -20 to low 100s.
I'm moving back to the Orange County/San Diego area next Septemeber. My parents have lived in the hills off of 76 in Oceanside for over 3 years now, so I consider it home again. My wife is from CA, too. I love SoCal. It beats HI's ass like no one's business!
flubyux2 11-05-2005, 02:02 AM really? the Mountains of Ca would be pretty sweet, especially the view and whatnot. however, HI is freakin beautiful. its actually much better than florida. but, theres no room out there. i need LONG bridges to stretch my legs, so to speak. so florida is the next nicest thing. the summers up in ohio by the lake are really great, and the fall was pretty nice too. but, somewhere near mid-fall, the clouds come, and they DONT leave untill april. and the days are SO much shorter than they are in fla. when i worked at the nuke plant up there, i would work 6am-6pm through fall and winter. it sucked so bad, because i would go into work before sunrise, and leave work After sunset. you could go MONTHS without seeing the sun or at least being in it. unfortunately, the office i worked in wasnt w/ windows.
i love the sun, and warmth, but i hate stagnant heat. near the coast, its awesome. there is always a gulf breeze, so it can be hot but it was still very tolerable.
SP 7M 11-07-2005, 08:38 AM really?Really.
I agree with you on stagnant heat. High humidity sucks bad, but they kind of go hand in hand. I'm all about ocean breezes, particularly those that gracefully caress the coast of CA. Fall weather in the Great Lakes kicks so much ass. I really miss that sh*t. That's not enough to keep me from moving back to CA, though. It gets nice and cool there during the night even during the summer (usually). The fall and winter months are more comfortable and it even gets below freezing on occasion there during the night.
flubyux2 11-07-2005, 01:04 PM yeah, i cant stand festering stagnant humid heat... like the rest of the inland southeast states. i miss having defined seasons too... but when one season blends into the next, its a bit boring, nothing to mark the year passing by. it has been getting colder though. ts probalby 85 right now and probalby get down to high 60's tonight. ill be freezing my ass off! lol
SP 7M 11-08-2005, 07:38 AM The high 60s and low humidity are what I'm hoping for now during the day here. The humidity here has been very high since I've been here-with a few nice days to tease us mixed in.
Defined seasons are very nice, but I can live without that shit.
flubyux2 11-08-2005, 08:13 AM yeah, the humidity down here at this time of the year isnt too bad. its a bit warm still, and itll probably cool off some more, but its getting quite mild. this is the best part about living here; while everyone is freezing their ass off with dank, overcast weather, im "warm" down here in sunny fla. relatively sweet i think.
SP 7M 11-09-2005, 05:31 AM relatively sweet i think.Relatively. You're relatively swift for having had part of your brain removed. *wwwiiinnnk*

That's why I wanna move down there, I hate it when it gets cold out. It's going to start snowing here soon, and then I'm going to be really sad

flubyux2 11-10-2005, 11:53 AM well, im fortunate enough to have the foresight to realize that if dont like cold weather and snow, i should do something about it and move to somewhere that is warm ;) its like 82 out right now, pretty nice. :)

Loki89t 11-15-2005, 08:41 PM That's too warm for right now.
Sounds perfect to me, I need money to move somewhere :tssk:
SP 7M 11-17-2005, 05:14 AM You should move to Southern California. That way you can enjoy warm, usually less-than-humid weather and still be on the west coast so that you're aren't too terribly far from anybody you care about in Castlegar(rrr).
