Disabling brights

Well a while ago I broke the stalk off of my steering wheel center piece (Not sure what it's called) when I was removing my dash. I put the stalk back in, kinda jammed it in there, and it works good up and down (For turn signals) but the brights are very... iffy :aiwebs_03. Almost always when I turn on my headlights the brights are on, and it takes me a bit to pull the knob back far enough to turn them off, yet NOT far enough to pull the knob out of the center piece. When my headlights are up, if I use my turn signals, 75% of the time the brights will turn on or flash. This is incredibly annoying and has left me using no turn signals at night to avoid flashing my brights at people. Is there any thing I can do to disable my brights? I absolutely never use them and to me they're useless since I don't often stray to poorly lit roads.

:help: How do I disable my brights?

Going to your headlights are 3 wires, one is a common ground, and the other two are dims and highs. Could be geto and cut the one wire and tape it off. :eusa_sile

I'm not very good with wiring diagrams, care to enlighten me which wire is for the brights, and which one is for the normal driving lights? :)

Anyone know which wire it is? Not sure how to read the diagrams

Sorry about not being back sooner, I would cut the red/black wire, cuz the blue box that has "flash, low, high" the column that has the red/black wire has a connection with the "high" and "flash" represented by the circle in the box. LMK

use a simple light tester to figure it out. pull a headlight connector off, hook the alligator clip up to a ground, and turn on your lights. turn on the high beams (which would turn OFF the lows) when you touch the prong of the light tester to the high beam wire, it will light up. cut that wire, if you wish...

personally, i'd just fix the stalk...

Where is the best place to get access to the headlight wires?

Right behind the headlight itself.

Is there any way to disable it from the stalk coming off of the steering wheel? I have full access to it, it would be much easier and I would prefer to do it directly from there.

I don't know off hand, you would have to follow the wires. If a red/black wire comes off the stalk disconnect it.

Is there only 1 black/red wire in the car? I have easy access to it and can see it coming from around the steering column going along the firewall to the passenger side. Like I said I have easy access to it, so I'm just wondering if this is in fact the wire for the brights. Would the easiest way to test it be with a multimeter, splice it in and test, and then simply turn on the brights?

Thats what I would do.

K well I cut the PINK (It's pink not red) and black wire going to the passenger headlight. Turned on headlights (Brights were on automatically) and the passenger headlight didn't turn on at all, so I knew right away just cutting the wire wasn't going to work. What I ended up doing is taking apart the stalk around the steering column and super-gluing the sensor for the brights down. Test drove, turned on lights tons of times. Now I can use my turn signal with my headlights up and don't have to worry about pissing people off from my brights flashing them constantly. Problem solved. :)
