I need to replace the hood lifters on my 92 Supra. Can anyone give me some leads. The dealer wants $92.00 each.

I got some 3 years ago (still work) at Autozone (cause they had them). "Mighty Lift" #001085-D95211....$17.99 ea. Lifetime Warranty.
Carquest carries them too.

The hatchback one were $150 ea. at Dealer. I found some at Pepboys that work. I had to grind off the factory bracket and used a bolt to hold the bracket to the new support. P/n 92377 lift support....$27.99 ea. :snork_lac

I just went to the local parts store, said I need hood struts for a '89 Supra and they got me some that fit and worked perfectly. Weren't very expensive either, IIRC they were around the same price as the ones HPF has.

I too need new ones and stiffer too since I mounted a wing from an 86 Firebird on my 89. Im going to measure these this weekend and buy stiffer replacments from a company called McMaster-Carr. I will post the part numbers next week sometime.

The hatchback struts I got from Pepboys (see my earlier post) are VERY strong. Stronger than factory. Even after 3 years. ;)

if you dont think your stock hatch or hood struts are strong, you might not know how they should be...

on fresh hood struts, you should be able to lift the hood about half way, and the strut pressure will lift the hood up on its own. in fact, the hood raises up so fast that it hits its travel limiter so hard that it shakes the car.

stock hatch struts are usually quite strong... but the weight of the trim pieces, wing, wiper and motor assy all weigh it down. ive stripped down my hatch because im painting the car. i can pop the hatch and lift it about 8" and the struts take over. the hatch now lifts so fast that it hits the travel limiters with some ferocity ;)

it just sucks that you have to remove that interior panel in the hatch to remove the 2 nuts that hold it to the C pillar. that was the gayest idea evar.

Great site for good prices. Have you tried those liftback struts?? As they are quite long, I'd think they would cost more.

Also, when I installed mine, I did not have to remove the entire molded cover to get them in/out. I was able to pop loose enough to get a small 1/4" drive socket in to remove/install the nuts. ;)

well thats good to know that the entire interior panel doesnt have to come off. ill bet i could get in there with my Indexing Gear wrench and do it up, raw-dura.

The lift strut on my car just broke down, hood keeps on closing whenever I put water to my radiator. I hate it coz it knocks my head every time.
