well.. after working on this MKIV project for the past few weeks, ive gotten an opporunity to try my hand at pic cuts/sectioning. what happened is, that we have put a SP71GTQ-HO on this car. the catch is that the car currently has a GReddy 3-row. we arent upgrading the intercooler or pipes simply because people have put down 1000rwhp on a 3-row, and we are only looking for 900ish rwhp. the problem is that the 3-row piping goes thru the passenger fender. so, we need to devise a way to connected the down-ward discharging turbo to the fender pipe. the only way i can do that is to go 90* out of the compressor outlet and then immediately to a 45* and connect the 3" hotpipe to the 3-row fender pipe...
we bought a 36"x3"x0.065" aluminum tube stock. started cutting out pie cut sections and setting them up and together they make about 120* turn on about a 2" radius. if you think about that, that is a TIGHT radius for 3" pipe...considering a 1.5" radius would place the legs of the bend so close that they would touch eachother.
im having so much fun with these pie cuts, i think im going to do my T88 manifold and downpipe like this, same with my IC pipes. i think ill make the header and exhaust for my RX7 with this method too. its going to take alot of cutting and sanding, so i need to find a bandsaw or chop saw, but its so MADD tyte JDM yo!
i will try to take some pics for you guys to show what im working with.
anyone else try pie cuts or sectioning?
