: hey dizahl here just saying whats up.
dizahl 10-12-2005, 09:52 PM 5 years ago if you said you owned a supra 60% of the common population looked at you like you just spoke a foreign language. 25% would say wow those are fast, and 15% would ask to touch you like you were the golden child. ok maybe thats just my cracked out point of veiw. but whatever let me introduce myself my nickname is dizahl aka mark dahl i live out in the boonies 80 miles west of st. louis MO I am the the only guy within a 15 mile radius that has tuned out imports as of right now i have a s13 240sx with a invader body kit and carbon fiber hood with a bunch of mods on the ka24de for now trying to decide on dropping a sr20det or a rb20det? thinking the sr20 due the availability of parts of course the rb does scream, ok enough nissan talk on to the supra its a 87 turbo targa 5 speed leather interior and a hks ssqv blow off valve and a walbro fuel pump. hg blow about 3 weeks ago so its in my shop right now waiting on parts. let me rewind and tell you my supras story i am the 4th owner i found it sitting in an old garage about 180 miles away from my house, i had just sold my first mkiii it was a non-turbo hard top 5 speed(my first drift car then i got the 240 and a 87 rx-7) so my buddy know i was in the market for a new supra, i picked the car up for $250 not running it hadn't ran for over 12 years, after 3 days of wrench turning and a fuel tank cleaning and fuel pump, fuel rail, new lines and injectors and a cps and new ignitor box and oil change and alot of lucas products. it fired right up no smoke no motor noise purred like a kitten my dad couldn't believe it after 3 days of giving me a hard time about wasting my time on a piece of junk, saying i should have dropped my money into one of my small block chevys "then i would have something" i changed his mind at 3rd gear about 5600 rpm when we went sreeching though the first corner and he was grasping the oh shit handle. sorry don't mean to be windy but i have been buying, trading, and selling cars and parts since i was 11 with my dad i personally have had a 74 dart, 77 vette sting ray, 77,79,80 and 85 camaro and a 89 iroc, 85 s10 blazer a 67 mustang and a 88 mustang gt, a 87 ford ranger with a 5.0 h.o.,62 cj6 willys jeep, 88 grand am(every day car)and a 87 supra. right now i own my turbo targa mkiii, my 240, a 74 cj5 jeep, a 1980 corolla tercel( i think they only made 2 or 3 years) a 56 chevy bel air, 69 cornet, and i drive a 98 jetta back and forth to work and i just recently sold my rx-7. my supra is getting completely rebuilt new bearings, rings, injectors, lexus afm, intercooler and other goodies. got most of the parts just waiting on some free time. any body have any suggestions on some internal upgrades let me know.

:beef: its whats for dinner! (don't ask)
Turbo-Joe 10-12-2005, 10:05 PM quite a story. welcome to you, sir :)
Loki89t 10-12-2005, 10:16 PM Welcome to the site.
SP 7M 10-13-2005, 04:43 AM Welcome to the forum, Mark.
If I may, let me suggest a RB20DET for your S13. I'm on Okinawa right now (my second "trip" to Japan) and I've seen plenty of cars with both engines. The RB does it for me because it is-first and foremost, a turbo inline-6, it sounds mean as hell and it would be much less common in America than the SR20.
I'd like to hear some more of your input on the situation.
Sublime 10-13-2005, 09:25 PM quite the collection of past cars there. Welcome aboard
dizahl 10-14-2005, 12:28 PM hey thanks for the warm welcome I see alot of people from supra digest here
as for as the sr20 or the rb20; i am no stranger to the ether motors the strong points of the sr20 are these: time proven, tons of parts and upgrades, direct fit into my s13 leaving plenty of room to work on. bad points: price, and everyone and their mother has one. now on to the rb good points: a inline six turbo, cheaper than the sr20, extremely fast revs from personal experiance, more power from the get go than the sr, torque out of this world, 2 words SKYLINE MOTOR, lighter than the rb25 and 26 (way cheaper too) and that sweet exhast sound only a turbo straight six can give you. down falls: room and lack of parts in the states. don't get me wrong i love the rb series they are one of the best motor family ever made. but after i help a buddy of mine drop the rb20 in to his 90 240sx (mines a 91 first year of the dohc) it was a very tight fit but it was probably so worth it in the end, after he let me drive it, lets put it this way it was like this turbo spool, shift, bov, spool, shift, bov, spool, shift, bov, spool, shift, bov, :aiwebs_01 stop and clean your pants and repeat. :aiwebs_01 in matter of seconds you were flying. my supra is the only thing that came some what close to that feeling, by the way he had a walbro fuel pump and injector upgade and was pushing 16 lbs of boost and ecu upgrade, wish i could remember all the specs, sorry. so if i can find a good solid source of parts for the rb20 i will for sure go with one but right now my mind is kind of set on the sr becuse of the room and the parts issue. maybe someone can change my mind, considering i have been extremely sick for the past 4 days and am on alot of meds, hint the poor spelling, that and i'm a back woods hick that just learned how to email :eusa_ange
-dizahl
p.s. :sheep: my first love (sorry meds are talking again)
SupraMan1784 10-14-2005, 12:36 PM welcome to the forum...another swap you might think of besides doin an sr20 or rb26/rb25 is also turboing the ka24 itself...also i head the sohc ka24 is good for boost since it is a very reliable motor...i know one of the guys that has a sick 240 hatch with a ka24 sohc turbo...very fast, many of guys and girls i should also say have sr20's..i know a little nissan stuff...but its not my forte
dizahl 10-14-2005, 01:29 PM thought about sticking with my ka24de and making it a turbo beast but it's starting to show its age at 195,000, but who knows maybe after a overhaul and some low compression pistons, and updated valve train, it might be beggin for some boost, that would be a path less taken........... :eusa_shif
thanks supra man you brought back the voices in my head. which is a good thing keeps me on my toes.
p.s. when all else fails just smile and nod :sheep2:
SP 7M 10-15-2005, 07:24 AM F*ck the KA24. That really is a truck motor. Take a history lesson.
dizahl 10-15-2005, 06:23 PM yeah i have been thinking now that i'm feeling better and starting to get off the medication the ka is a torqueing motor but even turboing won't give me the raw power that only a turbo straight 6 can give. i have been doing a little research about the rb20, rb25det and the dett, and the rb26dett, and i have to say i'm going to go with the rb20det, 3 reasons my s13 is not an everyday driver so who cares if i have to wait a month or 2 for parts; i have to consider the power. the lightness and faster revs stock than the 25 and 26, come on its a boosted 2.0 straight six. and third the price, i have seen halfcuts starting at $1500.00 thats just insane. plus most people haven't even heard of the rb20, so its kind of a well kept secrect still. and by the who the hell wants to say hey "I got a hatchback with a turbo truck motor and why no it's not a diesil"
hey thinks for all the input, hey why your over in japan snag me some rps13 tail lights! :)
SP 7M 10-15-2005, 06:36 PM I'd go check out a junkyard if I knew where one was. I hear there is some great stuff at those here.
The thing about selling stuff to people in the US is that if you're making money off of it then you can be in serious trouble. I want nothing of the sort.
SupraMan1784 10-16-2005, 10:21 PM hey i wasnt insisting that u keep the ka24 motor...i was just givin him ideas of what he can do...theres more than one option for an s13, i mean he can keep the ka or switch to the sr, rb or even teh ca18...gotta have options
Loki89t 10-16-2005, 10:37 PM I'd go check out a junkyard if I knew where one was. I hear there is some great stuff at those here.

I would love you forever if you found a junkyard and found a Turbo A duct for me
You don't have to sell me it, you can give me it and I'll just donate some money to your Supra needs more mods fund :snork_lac
SupraMan1784 10-16-2005, 10:40 PM ahh i keep hearing about hte turbo a supras...arent there a couple in teh states.. i know theyre very rare and werent really meant for mass production.. though i wouldnt mind ahveing one either

As far as I know I have never heard of a Turbo A being anywhere in North America. A guy on SF is selling a Turbo A motor that he got, but other than that never heard of a full car being over here. There were 500 Turbo A's made.

SupraMan1784 10-17-2005, 06:38 AM yea i heard about the guy from sf selling a turbo a motor...500 total is such a small number...it will definitely be hard to find no doubt about that
SP 7M 10-26-2005, 07:08 AM I would love you forever if you found a junkyard and found a Turbo A duct for me
You don't have to sell me it, you can give me it and I'll just donate some money to your Supra needs more mods fund :snork_lacI think that it might be hard to find a Turbo A in a junkyard since I haven't even seen one on the road. Sorry guy.

SupraMan1784 10-26-2005, 12:55 PM stop it you baby :snork_abe
ChrisB 10-30-2005, 10:31 AM Welcome aboard Mark. I remember when I bought my 95 Supra back in 97, when I tried to race people they would just laugh at me. They would say, what is that, a Honda? I kind of liked those days.
Chris.
SP 7M 10-31-2005, 06:10 AM Mark-I talked to a guy yesterday with a stock turbo from the RB25DET for sale. I don't know if that will bolt up to the RB20 manifold, but I told him I'd check to see with you if you were interested. Let me know, man.
dizahl 11-01-2005, 03:58 PM i miss those days too chris people are even starting to realize that red hatchback i drive is a 240 not a probe(body kit and spoiler kind of give it away) craig that turbo sounds great i'll make it work whats he what for it? i have came across a sr20det half cut s13 red top for only $1600.00. its very tempting i think i might go with it at first i can always get my money back out of it. maybe i'll just drop a 2jz in it and call it a day, oh yeah if any body gets a chance to change oil in a ae82(the fwd corolla with the 4age) run away screaming if you don't have the right filter socket. i found a 87 for my buddie for only $300(i love it when people don't have any idea on what they have :snork_tan ) and i took it straight to my shop for a tune up. then i found it i was missing a oil filter socket the one i needed, the exhast surrounds the filter and you can barely see the damn thing. I finally got it after a 6-pack, multiple burns (press for time) and half a pack of smokes, and a sore arm i came off. never again.
theres some hot women on oprah (don't ask just given some info)
SP 7M 11-02-2005, 05:15 AM Mark-All that was established was that the turbo was for sale. If I can make it over to talk to him in the next couple days I'll do that. I'll ask about the condition and so forth and also how much it will cost to take it off his hands.
$1600 for a SR20, huh? How much were you saying that an RB20 would set you back? I don't know, man...
Just for whatever-There was a guy in a Skyline R32 GTS t (TD-05-equipped RB20) driving back and forth near my work location gettin' loose and probably doing a little tuning. I asked a guy (who's into "American" cars) that I was working with (we were outside) what size engine he thought the car had simply based on its sound. He thought it was in the four liter range. What do I mean by this? They sound f'n mean. That is all.
dizahl 11-10-2005, 10:14 PM about 2500.00 to 3200.00 for a rb20 shipped halfcut
SP 7M 11-14-2005, 04:24 PM about 2500.00 to 3200.00 for a rb20 shipped halfcutSo I guess you'll go for the SR20 since it's so much cheaper?
dizahl 11-14-2005, 06:57 PM depends how the winter is, i'm a carpenter in the midwest bad winters means little work which means little money. plus I'm getting ready to build a bigger house. so only time will tell
SP 7M 11-14-2005, 08:21 PM Well you've got other cars, so no rush I guess. It's not like a sports car does you much good in the winter in MO anyway.
SupraMan1784 11-15-2005, 06:36 AM sr20 is a pretty nice motor when its tuned....when its untuned...the power comes on real late...id rather go sr than rb.....but theyre both good motors that can make good power
dizahl 11-15-2005, 09:35 PM rb is just the path less taken, but there is a ton of goodies for the sr, but right now my main concern is my 7mgte rebuild shooting for around x-mas, i'm looking for suggestions for a budget build up done right. got 550cc inj. and a hks ssqv bov,and walbro fuel p, getting ready to upgrade afm to lexus, and hks head gasket, port & polish head, and valve train(probably oversize 1mm valves) and new bearings, rings and gaskets, hoping to just boost the ct-26 to about 16 lbs for at first since the turbo is brand new (previous owner). that is the first step i want to take.
SupraMan1784 11-16-2005, 06:41 AM thats a good start...ask santa for some parts tahts wut im doing...im sending him my wishlist tonight
dizahl 11-16-2005, 09:04 AM maybe i should mail my list to jeff gore he lives a little north of me he can be my santa, most of the parts will come from them anyway.
SupraMan1784 11-16-2005, 11:32 AM u better hope that 7mgte can fit down that chimney ;)
dizahl 11-16-2005, 11:38 AM i leave the door unlocked just in case it doesn't.
SupraMan1784 11-16-2005, 12:57 PM hahaha leave out some milk and cookies for him too and make sure mommy dont be kissin santa claus
dizahl 11-16-2005, 08:01 PM hell mama can kiss santa if jeff i mean santa brings along an aem man. system
