What do you all think about this car? I'm not a huge fan of the grill, but overall I think it looks pretty good. ~180hp, lightweight, RWD... From the pictures and specs, I'd definitely get it over a miata

It's growing on me. I have heard rumors of a turbocharged saab engine being introduced later on

Well I guess with the TT and the Miata they had to do something to complete in that market. IMO the sides and the back look good but the front is a little fugly. If that is the prototype I am sure the actual model will differ slightly.

Heavy, slow, 5-speed, made by GM

Sounds great.

Soon. Also, the Saturn Sky is identical to the Solstice, but changed looks. I like the looks better but they're still pieces of shit ;)

TIME seems to agree with you. I just think its a real sports car and hasn't been compromised down for "civilians"

There was a good comparison between the Solstice and Miata in this month R&T http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=2777

I thought it did pretty good and is likely to me easily moded to improve performance. From what I've seen and read, the Ecotech engine has lots of potential. I guess time will tell if the quality is good enough or if it will have problems and rattles.

It does look ok but I think I would rather have a TT or Miata. The production model looks very similar to the one in the picture, i've only seen one in person. They look ugly to me with the top up but that's just IMO.

Rumor has it that Saturn will have a car with the same platform called the Sky.

i actually like the car. my girlfriend's dad is pretty high up in one of the gm plants so he got one for a weekend. the car is really smooth and drives really good. the only small convertible i can compare it to is the mr2 spyder. the spyder is not smooth at all. the ride is very rough and you feel every bump in the road. the solstice is very smooth doesn't feel like a convertible at all. plus it is pretty peppy for a 4 cylinder. still wouldn't want anything that small for a daily driver but it would be a fun weekend car. another interesting fact is that it has no spare tire, it just has a small air compressor in the back.

I ran into a brand new Blue solstice on Pacific Coast Highway and Topanga last week when I went for a drive for work on Friday. I was shocked to see the car in person, driving. It looks INCREDIBLE in person, really. The top was down and the car looked flawless. I really wish I had a picture but it was there. I wondered if they were available at dealerships yet, and this one looked to have been owner-driven. Surely baffled me.

The car was right in front of a Toyota Solara convertible with camera gear facing rearward and a Lexus RX330 behind it driving up Pacific Coast Highway near Gladstones Fish. I thought they should be filming the Solstice but WTF do I know.
