okay just recently my afm went and i riged it open a lil bit to beable to run a lil better and able to drive. whn i strt the car it puts out a black smoke until i get on the gas. after tht whn idling it will put out like a gray smoke thn change to white. butt if i shut the car off and restart it it goes straight to the black smoke...? (i think fryed rings)

Puffing white smoke normally means BHG.
Could be rings definitely not good.

Sometimes the compression checks out and it is still bhg.
But yes. The comp check is your next step.

Well we aren't sure yet nothing really supports it just yet.
Look under your oil fill cap and see if there is a milky looking substance on it.
Next look into you radiator overflow res.. See if there is oil in it.
Has the car been heating up to the point of over heating lately?

May not be a BHG. Hard to say.

if the compression numbers are within tolerance....try leak down test along with it.

or maybe if his afm went and he riged it he may be running horibaly rich, which could explain the black smoke when the cold start injector is running which will shut off once you hit the gas. and running a little less rich once the cold start shuts off. try getting a new afm before you jump to a bhg or rings, it may be a little simpler.
