it cant be timing it doesnt start so how would i time it i think it could be i put a fuel line or something in the wrong spot it sounds like a car that just ran out of gas you think it could be that?

On my 7m it does pretty much what you were describing when the cams are 180 degrees out.

Any details you could throw in would be helpfull.

crank your motor, pull a plug and see if there is any fuel on it, if still sounds like timing if they are out enough they will not start but will back fire and pop, sometimes they won't even do that.

I still think it's your timing but ditch is right. You should check for spark and fuel and run the volt meter over everything. Check all vaccum lines.
Go over everything.

Get a timing light. Attache it to the neg terminal of the battery and your #1 plug wire.

Edit: You wouldn't back fire without fuel and spark. Because thats what the back fire is. Fuel burning at basically the wrong time.

I bet your cams are out or reversed or some crap. Thats if everything is at tdc.

Your' dizzy could be off by a few teeth. You just have to keep adjusting until you hit the spot.
Once it comes into view, you can't miss it with the light.

I hope this helps.
