Hi all, I just bought my first Supra. It's an 87 non turbo 5 spd with a 7mge. I have alot of plans for my baby, engine swap to turbo will be the first major project. Everything is tight with the exeption of the tranny. I'm told it's shot. I have a loud humming noise in all the gears, especially louder in 3rd and 5th gears. So the first thing I'm going to need is a w58 manual tranny. So if you all hear of anyone getting rid of this tranny let me know. Thanks in advance.

The w58 is capable of holding 400hp. That's its' max potential.

The tranny you need is the R-154. It's the turbo tranny.
The r series is capable of holding 1000hp.

You may want to rethink going with the w series.

Research research research.

I would hate to see you build yourelf into a corner, is all.

Welcome to the forum.
Do you have any more pics???

Thanks, I need the w58 to continue driving the car for now until I'm ready for the swap, at which point I will get the turbo engine and tranny together. Thats what I meant. Sorry for the confusion....

Then the cheapest route is to rebuild your w series.
You are probably still looking at 900 bucks.

You can probably find the r series for somewhere around 1500 bucks

I don't want to tell you what to do.
I just thought maybe you didn't know you had options.
If I offended you in any way. I didn't intend too.

You can pm me if you have any questions but it's cool if we speak in forums and welcome other thoughts and ideas.

Have fun here. You can talk some shit so long as no one starts flaming.

No offense taken at all, I just thought I mention I needed the W58 tranny to see if anyone has done a swap already and had one laying around. Maybe I can get a used one out there for cheap to get me going until I get ready to do my swap.
Thanks.

fill that tranny up with lucas oil 90 w i had the same problem with a rx-7 someone ran it low on fluid and toasted the bearings the lucas with recover some of the damage and atleast you can drive it my rx-7 has lasted over 100k
miles with no probs. worth a shot.

It can get prettly loud though, I'm afraid that if I do that it'll probably calm the noise down some but really won't fix the prob. Then maybe I'll end up doing more damage to the tranny and be stuck somewhere on the side of the road, costing me more at that point to have it towed etc...
So it is worth the shot, but I struggle with taking that chance.Thanks.

Alright macy. Here's the dealio.

Exactly what diz said. It'll get you through till you can get it to the shop safely.

And given the supra I'd say ya. There's a good chance she'll leave ya hiking.

When mine goes out you see mushroom clouds of smoke followed by engine failure. Side of the road.

Hopefully I have remedied that with my recent labors.

I'm changing out the AFM tomorrow. I'm hoping this is all she's thirsty for.
Cuz my funds have long been dried up for this bitch.

sell a kidney then you'll be rich bitch, the lucas is a safe way cause it lubs everything it will get you by if the tranny isn't already toasted, i did it to a rx-7 tranny years ago and it's still on the road and i drove it 160 miles a day 6 days a week, give it a try.
