i was watching the Speed channel and saw motorcycles with full carbon fiber wheels. I know cars weight a hell lot more but i was wondering. does anyone make a wheel with mostly carbon fiber? or anything close

Not that I know of. Fenders, hoods and doors but not wheels.

yes

There are a couple carbon fiber wheels made for cars, extremely expensive, I sort of recall $4000 to $5000 per wheel when I first heard about it and looked into this about a year or so ago. The one I saw first in one of the import car magazines was Dymag http://images.motortrend.com/features/auto_news/2006/112_news060620_01z+dymag_carbon_fiber_wheel+.jpg

Then I read that one of the Mosler cars will have these wheels:

"...Mosler Automotive has announced that its Mosler MT900S will be the first production car to be factory-equipped with high-performance carbon fiber wheels. The specialty, ultra-lightweight rims have been designed exclusively for the Mosler and manufactured by Dymag, a wheel manufacturer that has been producing carbon fiber wheels for motorcycles for more than four years.

The 18- and 20-inch nine-spoke Dymag wheels sport a magnesium center hub with carbon fiber rims and have been specially designed to complement the silhouette of the MT900S. The Mosler's new carbon fiber front rims weigh 14 pounds, versus the 24 pounds for its current forged aluminum OZ wheels and the new Dymag carbon fiber rear rims weigh a mere 17.5 pounds each compared to 28.5 pounds each for the OZ aluminum versions. This translates into a total reduction in rotating unsprung weight (RUM) of 42 pounds.

"The Dymag carbon/magnesium wheels have nearly half as much rotational inertia as forged aluminum wheels," says company founder Warren Mosler, promising the savings in unsprung weight should improve handling and ride qualities as well as our acceleration, braking and cornering..."
