I just found out that my stock callipers are single piston.
This upsets me a bit as I thought they were 4 piston.
What Up???
Can someone enlighten me?

Everything I have ever read said 4 piston. Oh well.
They cost too much from the dealer anyhow and I can't brembos so I guess I'll make due.

I am going to buy the calliper rebuild kits from toyota.
They are $17 for the 2 fronts. And $19 for the rears.
I'm just going to get rotors from orielly's if mine can't be turned.
I'm thinking with only 135k on the car that they may have never been turned.
So one or the other. The least expensive.
I will go with ceramic brake pads. And hopefully when I roll the front passenger wheel through a puddle the calliper won't lock up anymore.
So the walbro is installed. The blaster coil is installed. The front and rear jic strut tower rods are on stand bye. New hood struts will probably be installed soon. Sinse I am hanging in the balance of the toyota parts house.
So we have the head looking good and the HKS 2.mm stopper looked sweet all pressed out to 85ftlbs.
I'm not putting the carbon fiber on until I have this thing running.
I don't expect to be so lucky as to have it turn over and run.
I have done the best I can do. The car will have to want to live.
Anyhow when I get it running it's going to the glass and upholstery shop for a new rear hatch glass to the the tune of $500. And new carpet to cover up that ugly rear seat delete.
Then it goes to the shop to have the tokico tems shocks installed along with the eibach springs. I'll have these guys rebuild the brakes and install them.
I'm also going to have them tighten the passenger mirror, you cats know.
All the pesky shit that just pisses you off to have to do that combined with the things I don't have the tools to do it with.
Feel me.:rock_band BRING THE NOISE. UH woot woot
You could always install Previa calipers... they're dual pistons. I just can't remember which year it was that was a direct bolt on.

Never herd of previa. I'll hold out for Brembo's. I'll find some sooner or later.
I was referring to the Toyota Previa, the minivan. It's got dual piston calipers which bolt right on to the MKIII... well, as long as you get the right ones. No, they're not comparable to Brembos or Willwoods, but every little bit helps right?

Ya, that's a good idea actually. I just don't follow mini vans and there is no way my dealer is going to be able to find the ones that plug and play. LOL.
There's a thread about it on SF. Someone needed to replace one of his front calipers and couldn't figure out why everyone kept giving him single piston calipers to replace his dual... turns out the previous owner must've figured that they were compatible.
Yeah, an interesting find.

It's worth looking into.
But what worries me is the price.
1 front calliper new, not re-mand, from toyota was $326.00 from the stealership.
He said that and I said, stop right there.
Rebuild kits are how much??
And now you are telling me I can get a dual piston calliper from a manvan.
Is that right?? But the catch is that I have to find the ones that are plug and play because there are a few.
So my next question (if we are on the same page) is. Is there anyway we can locate this chap and see if he has part numbers???
Because my toyota parts guy is kind of like Homer Simpson.
One post says '88 - '89 Celica All-Trac, another says '91 - '96 ABS equipped Previa.... it's not unlikely that these were used in more than one car. Also keep in mind that our calipers aren't really a weak spot in our brake system. Old herniating hoses and worn out master cylinders are the big issue... replace those and you'll be stunned.
Here's the thread:

If you are looking to do this swap I'd take a MKIII caliper to autozone and compare it to the others to make sure of the fit. $100 for a reman without core isn't bad at all.

I"m going to the parts house I'll do some research.
I stayed up till 5 am working on this thing.
The wiring harness is almost in.
Get tready for pics of what I can't figure out, lol.
Let me know what you find out. I'm interested in whether this makes a difference.
