My buddies 1986 Supra has not been running for a few years and his dad gave it to us to work on. We figured out that the fuel pump is out (if an 86 has an electric pump) but there is another problem. I was turning it over and it would kind of start for a few seconds while he was spraying eether (i dunno how to spell it) but it wouldn't exactly run on it. It would sputter, kick in, then quit. Does anyone have any idea as to what may be causing this? If you do your advice would be useful.

Did you check or replace the plugs yet? I think I'd at least check them before going further. Then make sure you are getting decent spark to each.
After sitting for a few years it could be a number of "almost to be expected" things, like fuel system gumming up, injectors, filter, ...even the pump maybe, etc. Unless you get lucky with some more squirts of ether/starting fluid and it kicks over and runs, you will likely have to start systematically disconnecting fuel lines and looking for where you have fuel and where not. Plus, if it got laid up a few years ago, do you know why/what what wrong back then?
I have a '95 so I can't give you '86 year specific info, just this general bs.

Your most likely gonna have more problems than just a fuel pump, if its been sitting that long You need to try and basically Flush out the whole car. Make sure everything is cleaned and properly flowing (air, fuel, oil, etc.).

The downside is that after you get it running and start driving it......, it's gonna dollarbill you to death.
