: vented bonnet/hood
the don 05-17-2006, 12:47 PM after buying the car and knowing they suffer from overheating i took it upon myself to relief the under hood temps but taking an angle grinder to it.. and this is the outcome.

i TELL YOU wHAT! That looks really neat, and a good idea.10/10. :teeth:
boostin89 05-17-2006, 02:55 PM Thats awesome, im serious...that took some talent. how r u gonna do in rain though?
aka kactabigun 05-17-2006, 03:14 PM You must allso have a steady hand. :respekt:
the don 05-17-2006, 05:12 PM well the vents are off an n/a mr2 engine cover . cut them out and place on the hood.. masking tape to hold them in place and i kept adjusting the position so no major electrics are directly underneath the vents..the only electrics under them are non essential.. 1side has the boost gauge sender unit the other side has the alarm siren/cruise control vac solenoid.. if you want to fit your on they actually sit directly above the strut tops so the strut brace is getting grubby.. these are what the look like in reality sorry about the wrong colour.. damn idiot working in custom paint shop mixed wrong "super white"..

boostin89 05-17-2006, 05:33 PM I wish i could get those. Nice Mod.
the don 05-17-2006, 05:37 PM I wish i could get those. Nice Mod.
simple ..a 1992 mr2 non turbo engine cover or rear hood lid.. not sure what the mr2 was called in the states. but hey are common as dog muck over here i only paid £10 for mine about $15 if you want one i'll price shipping to you
boostin89 05-17-2006, 07:28 PM allright, price it for california if you can and then lemme see about it. Im not sure how much spare $ i have right now.
supramacist 05-18-2006, 11:58 AM Nice. Let me ask what would happen if I took the liner off of the underside of the hood???
the don 05-18-2006, 12:21 PM the liner is designed to soak up the heat and noise so i threw it away and now all the heat escapes and the bov is a lot louder
boostin89 05-18-2006, 01:30 PM maybe i'll take out my underhood liner, are you sure it helps w/ heat dispursment? How does it work for you?
the don 05-18-2006, 01:52 PM maybe i'll take out my underhood liner, are you sure it helps w/ heat dispursment? How does it work for you?as i have 2 massive sections of the hood removed i'm running fine . but what i will say is you re move the underhood layer you may scorch your paint work as the heat will soak into the hood not escape..
another quick mod to help disperse underhood temps is to shim up the hinge brackets on the hood so you have a 10mm gap at the firewall and remove the rubber trim
hagar the 'orrible 05-18-2006, 04:26 PM also he lives in wales, the rainyest place on the planet and doesn't have any damp starting problems. our supes come with lifejackets and an outboard fitted on the rear over here!
supramacist 05-18-2006, 06:24 PM it's in good shape and I need to be worrying about the voices in my head more so than othere. It's prioritized insanity. try it it works.

That looks very cool. Nice work. :w00t:
Nick 95 6sp 05-19-2006, 09:08 AM That's excellent! I don't know how "old school" it is but you don't see hood ...or is it bonnet ;) ... louvers around much anymore so I thought old school in a postive sense.
Coincidentally, now that I'm ready to start installing single turbo hardware on my MkIV I've just recently been thinking of getting a spare stock hood and louvering it up.
ps: the first car I ever owned, it was in 1972, was a '67 XKE Roadster and it had a "bonnet" and a "boot"
the don 05-19-2006, 04:24 PM well thanks for all the positve comments.. all i got off the uk site was critiscim of "oh the electrics are going to fail" they dont understand the concept of research.. not including the select few that migrated to here..i'll be honest with you all it was hard work in skining the bonnet .the cutting out the vents from the mr2 joggling the supra bonnet to get them to sit flush, then i had to re-weld the supports/ re weld them back in after trimming the mr2 vents..the re-weld thethe mr2 vents into the supra with out distorting the bonnet.. cant wait to get them re-sprayed properly but before that i have other plans :snork_oko
