: Was Ryans run reckless????
1BADSUPRA 09-20-2005, 10:18 AM I find it humorous that as soon as Elliot posted the fact about Ryan being kicked off the Tucson track for the remainder of the year for crossing the centerline, that he had the thread closed! Regardless there was an intelligent post about a mustang Pro 5.0 driver being killed when his car got out of the groove and crossed the centerline. Some less than experienced people state, "well, that car makes 2500hp". To this, let me say, those cars ALSO have twice the tire, twice the chassis, twice the safety equipment, and 10X the experience. When is the last time you have seen them prep the centerline at the track???? There is a reason the experienced people call being out of the groove being in the marbles....because that is what it is like when you get out of the groove with a high horsepower car that is fighting for traction the whole run anyway. No experienced drag racer would say that run wasn't reckless and irresponsible. Ryans response was that there is only one other person that can comment on a car like that (referring to Paul Efantis). He thinks that since Paul hasn't posted he is on his side...... I sincerely doubt this is the case....Paul is an intelligent and experienced drag racer, and I have watched him lift DOZENS of times when the car gets loose.....he knows better! Ryan also pointed out that anything can happen at any E.T. at any time....absolutely correct! These cars however are alot slower, and things happen much slower. Here is an idea!!! Aggrivate the situation by being out of control waiting for something like that to happen as well!
Was Ryan kicked off the Tucson track for the rest of the year for the above mentioned reason? Absolutely..... according to officials at SIR dragstrip in Tuscon. Tech officials approached Saad at the track on a friday night test and tune thinking Saads silver car was Ryans. The official noticed Saad standing near the car and asked him...."Is this your car?" Saad said..."Yes", the official said Oh...o.k. When asked why, his response was "I thought this was Ryans car, and was going to ask him to leave!" The official stated that " Ryan was banned for crossing the centerline and taking out timing markers, and the main reason he was banned was becuase his attitude in the matter was that of....Oh well......"
ma71supraturbo 09-20-2005, 10:24 AM Jason, Do you have video?
1BADSUPRA 09-20-2005, 10:42 AM I don't have the video...to be honest the video doesn't really show how reckless the run was. I was standing at the starting line when he made the pass....he should have lifted at 200'.
ma71supraturbo 09-20-2005, 11:08 AM http://store1.yimg.com/I/wotmstore_1863_9511459
Here's the video: http://homepage.mac.com/rdwoon/NHRA8.99Pass.mov
IMO it looks like he should have lifted considering he was in front of the other car and risked crossing in front of the other car and collecting both up. I guess kudos for finally getting it to straighten out but I think he should have lifted to be on the safe side. Just my opinion.
ChrisB 09-20-2005, 11:48 AM I don't do that crap anymore. The one pass just isn't worth your life or someone elses, or at minimum considerable damage to your car. I always lift when it gets squirly. I've had that happen several times but never crossed the center line.
Chris.

I agree with you 100% Chris. Ryan just thinks he is being picked on, but the truth is, I have seen this happen many times and so far...luckily the guy that crashed was ahead of the guy in the other lane becuase the other car had to lift early! Lingenfelter, Tirso, Ara, Steph, Scranton, Abel, Manni Cruz, Ben Mah, etc.... etc.... It's just plain irresponsible!
John Reed 09-20-2005, 12:07 PM I was standing by Jason, and I thought for sure that car was going in the wall. I have not seen video footage yet that illustrates how out of control it looked. Better to lift and race another day. You don't always pull off a save like that, and you are responsible for your own safety along with the guy in the other lane, track workers, etc.

Saad Saad 09-20-2005, 12:07 PM But hey, he did run an 8.9979999999:) Can we just call it a 9.0 since
Ryan likes to round the numbers so much:)
ChrisB 09-20-2005, 12:08 PM Well, he got in a good pass with the 8.99 and he was lucky enough and skilled enough to drive out of it. You can only be lucky for so long however.

I think it is funnier than Saad's!! But Ryan's rules of rounding are quite comical!

Anytime John. Look forward to seeing you again in Vegas.
SPDu4ea 09-20-2005, 04:00 PM I think Ryan just proved the inverse relationship between balls and brains
phantasm 09-20-2005, 04:06 PM looked a little reckless to me. i just hope he doesnt hurt someone
titannero 09-20-2005, 04:56 PM Sounds like more spouting about Woon and his car. I've seen the video and I've seen some of his runs and a lot of them are safer and quicker then the other cars out there. How many times has he crossed lanes? I'm not naming names but I know there are others crossing lanes out there. No one is complaing about them.
What are you worried about getting beat or safety? I don't see anyone other then Jason spouting untruths about safety. Woon has a legal NHRA license to race his car and his safety is up to date in all aspects. If you feel unsafe it is your right not to race him or line up to him. If you see him in competition you can choose to forfeit. No one will shame you for it, the chances of you winning is not likely anyways. Woon has proven himself in competition to be a winner plain and simple.
Safety complaints can be taken in various manners, Jason you of all people can't talk much, is your flexplate sfi approved? Is your nitrous system safe, shooting that headlight out the front of the car one day could possibly have the headlight hit someone. I don't see room to talk here.
PS: Complaining about safety on touching centerline is nothing much, there are multiple ways of bringing a car back in your own lane, not all drivers like to abrubtly shut a car off in a run to pull the car back into the lane or in the groove, sometimes an abrupt shutdown will make a run worse then help control the vehicle.

Yes...all of my safety equipment (including my SFI flywheel) is up to date. The safety in question here has nothing to do with Ryans safety, and more to do with the safety of others on the track.
Ryan has a liscense? Whooopeeee, so do I, do you know what it takes to get one???? Doesn't mean you are a competant driver, doesn't mean you know how to use your head. I personally don't know of anyone who has crossed the centerline and stayed in it.....no ONE!
Name one car out there that has made a pass anywhere close to that out of control.....just one!
Me....worried about getting beat by woon??? Want to put some cash on that race??????

Look I'm not going to name anybody here or embarass them, the only one doing the embarrasment is you and that you're doing to yourself.
Jason do you realize that I am the manager and owner of multiple championship race programs, of course i know how to get a license. I have worked with numerous champions and rookie of year winners. The fact that you would wonder if I even know how to get a license shows your ignorance.
As far as a bet, I would take that anytime. I just don't got time to try and arrange a bet on your terms, the terms and conditions change to much and we don't have the time to wait till you get your car running. By then I could be retired.

Nero, why don't you show the video to your drivers and ask them what they think? Do you think Brad or vince or ED would stay on the throttle with half of their car in the other lane???? NOT. The only ignorance involved in the post was the fact that you pointed out "Ryan has a liscense" as some sort of proof he knows what he is doing. Now go on and run your "Multiple championship race teams" Yeah making a bet with you is pretty lame.....you never take them until after you win...then wonder why no one pays! Keep up the good work....See you in E-town!
P.S. You aren't naming any names...because you don't have any...nice try though! Also, Ryans copy and paste e-mail left out the fact that I never said you said the block was filled. However you did infact tell me and Saad you sold him a spool for his car!
Saad Saad 09-20-2005, 06:50 PM Nero, you and I both know that Ryan called you and asked you to post for him. Just like he used to do with me before he stole from me and I told him that I wanted nothing more to do with him. Now you have done that and good for you and your winning race teams. Your promoting your engine that is in his car and I do not blame you one bit. Remember, it was me that made him admit that he had your motor in his car:)
Also, just because you cut the checks for the teams does not mean you know the first thing about driving, and you don't by the way:)

I was thinking the exact same thing!
silvr94r2 09-20-2005, 11:16 PM What's up guys? Just heard about the site from Jason.
Interesting stuff going on these days huh? Ryan closes the thread right after i post about his testing mishap. Strange isn't it? If he has nothing to hide then how come he closes it so fast and then blocks me from his area? What a little ass muncher! Next time i see him i will not be so cordial that's for sure.
Counting down the days until SILV05 :eusa_danc
Saad Saad 09-21-2005, 01:05 AM ya, none of use can see it:) I think its all very funny myself. I'm looking forward to seeing Dana's car run, tell him I said good luck!

Saad I'd be happy to sell you a motor to. I can admit I do support and push our stuff. The support though is all around for the car. If you need help I'd be happy to offer my advice based on my experience. I'm not sure what you guys keep hearing about what Woon's running in his car or why you should care so much. The combination is right on his website, I see no reason why you guys keep "saying" someone said this or that.
If you want to know for the record, Woon doesn't have a spool, he has a LSD in the car. His block is also not filled or 1/2 filled or anything else, its a full street motor that is $7800 on my website for reference. I can tell you I did get a call from Jason S about motors and I was happy to offer up my experiecne and say that Woon will need a 1/2 filled block if he continues to make more and more horsepower. I never said he has one.
As far as my drivers, well we've black tracked a full slick on the pro rwd cars down the track in Denver in 2004 with Brad, then in 2005 with Vince when he ran Steph. Unfortunately sliding a 6 second car side to side is not the best thing for the car, but sometimes you gotta push the envelope. Nothing happened when Vince black tracked the car other then the win light coming on.
In all honesty Jason you should stop worrying about what others have and worry about your own stuff. That's why your lacking championships in your portfolio.

Nero, as I stated.....ask your drivers if they would stay in it when half their car is across the centerline, and how they would feel about racing someone that did. I have seen your boys lift more than ANY of the other ProRWD drivers due to getting loose and out of the groove. WHo do you really think you are kidding here?
As far as a championship goes, I personally don't field a car trying to go after one, I have more important things to do...remember I don't live at home with MOM (like you)...I am married with two wonderful children to spend time with. I stick to helping the other guys in the Pro class (that have already won multiple championships!):):)

You see this is what you are missing Nero. There is no win for someone that crosses the center line once let alone twice in a single pass. This was done during qualifying and NHRA did NOT COUNT THE TIME. As for me buying one of your engines, why would I need to do that when I build a better motor and I do it myself. That is something that both you and Ryan can not say
bottle 09-21-2005, 10:27 AM Jason you are a real big man, why dont you go fix your crappy cdi's that dont work.

My drivers lift to save equipment a pro car and a street car are different. The Supra we almost never lift on that type of car. As far as someone crossing centerline on us, its happened and I'm sure it won't be the first or the last time. Doesn't mean I tried to get that driver banned from competition or whine about it. It happened and ohh well, that's why you sign a waiver at the gate.
Jason I see you got better things to do, posting on forums about how you rule the engine world and not actually being able to follow that up with reality are way better.
Saad - you have a "better" motor then Titan does? I'm not going to argue that you do or don't that's an opionated statement. All I can say is that Woon's car is quicker then your's to date. It has my motor in it, and its a full street motor not a race motor. My Street Tire Supra has a number of championships which shows its reliability as well as has set numerous mph and e/t records which shows its power potential. The Pro RWD cars all have MPH and E/T records and are the only ones to break into the sub 6.50's. I'm unsure of what qualifies as a better motor can you please educate me? (Jason we don't need to hear about above, below, side to side and behind the curve, I still don't know where my curve is, I think its a slider)

Listen here, I am placing a bet with you and you are the one that being a chicken now. Lets go you vs woon or even ur boy saad vs woon, I dont care either one. I dont even have to ask woon I am sure he will race cause he is a true sportsman and racer. Lets go $1000.00 dollars cash money on the table.
And yes Jason I live with my Mom, I dont see what this has to do with the bet or anything. I guess I have a lot of respect for my family and they did not kick me out like ur parents probably did because of how you are.
And for the cdi is a product used to say goes hand in hand with the EMS, now it just messes up and u cant stand behind ur own product. Not does any of the race teams use the CDI with the EMS cause the company u work with wont fix the problem.

I currently reside with my parents, me and bottle do. Yes. We also own more properties around town which we could live in then you probably do in Cali. My personal business is my personal business. If you want to chat about your kids and side track the fact that you've got holes in that championship calendar then let me know. CDI's and EMS have nothing in common whatsoever 2 different designers, 2 different builds....completely. As for fixing the "problem" while 8% is not a good failure number, that is what AEM was getting on the CDI, AEM decided to quite selling the product until the issue could be figured out. EVERY CDI that failed was warrantied by AEM, and will continue to be. In case you were wondering, the reason the sales were so good with the CDI's, it was becuase so many people were having problems with MSD and refuse to use them. So apparently there is more to making them than just putting up a bunch of desks in a building, getting some phone lines, and selling other peoples product at a 2% margin!:)
Saad Saad 09-21-2005, 10:56 AM Saad any race. You vs woon or jason vs woon.

Well Bottle thank you for your advise but unless the CDI is connected to my axle shafts I think your a bit off target. My problem is that I have not gutted my car like Ryan has and it is just very heavy.
As for the bet, will you be in Vegas? If so lets set it up, let me know.

If the MSD Unit is so bad why does the AEM race car use it?
There is more to this company then just a bunch of desks, we have a great sales staff, and a great bunch of customers. There are many companes that have come and gone in the past so I think there is more then just a bunch of desks and selling other brands involved here. If it where so easy jason you should leave AEM and start ur own business.
Shut up or put up.

Jason you said you wanted to bet, lets make this public so all the fans know who really will be backing out of this bet.
Lets lay the rules down here. Who is racing who, the amount, how it will be paid, etc...
I do not have plans to go to the vegas meet at the current time but if I dont go my money will be there regardless, I will hand it to someone to bring to the event.
titannero 09-21-2005, 11:19 AM Nero, I never really thought you were that thick headed. Did that driver stay in it when he crossed????? NO! And how is saving a $100k pro car and a $100k street car any different??? BUll shit Gary wouldn't lift if he crossed the centerline!!!!
We've never crossed center line, and if your refering to Woon he didn't cross centerline in the manner your speaking. He touched the centerline and went over (yes he crossed and NHRA dq'ed the run) but as you see in the video he brought it back into his lane. He didn't cross over like what happened to Shep at the nopi race with the Z-car. Big differences there
Thanks

The race team runs the MSD for the two step control, it is a bit tighter than the one in the EMS.
I never said I had any problems with MSD ever...in fact, I personally have never had one fail, I have never had one of the AEM CDI's fail on me either. I am just letting you know what people have told me.

Nero, he spent the majority of the run on the yellow line, I was standing at the starting line, so get that cameras point of view. The bet is for the Vegas Supra meet. It will be one race between Ryan and I and one race between Ryan and Jason. Each race will be for $1000. Any fouls and you lose, crossing center- touching center-red light-ect.
What I need from you is a commitment from Ryan to race and the name of the person that will your be proxy in Las Vegas. You must have the cash at the track.
Questions?

Why would you have to worry about me when you both know everytime we bet you don't take it...then when you would have won (which has been most of the time) you want to collect. I have NEVER backed out of a bet with you yet.
As for your mom, I don't really think she is that smart....otherwise she would have given you two the boot long ago!:):):)

Lets analyze this statement a little. I have 12 gas stations as of this date. Each one of those stations has a "slurpy machine". Each machine costs about 12k. That means that I have about $144,000 in "slurpy machines". That is almost as much as BOTH of your race cars, think about it:)
Would you like to wager your two race cars against my slurpy machines?

I already covered this. It is a bet at the starting line in Vegas. What you need to do is tell me who your proxy will be and give me a commitment from Lyan, uh I mean Ryan:)
Justin727 09-25-2005, 02:23 PM i gotta say its good to lift but lifting does have its draw backs in some cases. If you don't lift and cross the line and able to keep control you're skilled but you sure the hell wont be able to do that all the time.
Last year a low 10 second stang 5.0 crossed the line lifted and as soon as that thing got a bite of road it shot into a wall. Thank god the driver got out of it with bruises but I have seen a few bad lifts in my time to say this is a rediculous thing to argue over.
Pokey 09-25-2005, 10:32 PM so many variables come into play, but usually if you crash when you lift, the way i think it happens, is the people have there wheels pointed in the wrong direction to counter steer when they lift, then the weight transfer goes to the front wheels and upsets the car, causes it to go out of control
Justin727 09-25-2005, 10:50 PM you are correct. But in some cases when the front end is somewhat off the ground it doesnt help things either.. too many variables as you stated

Saad Saad 09-26-2005, 10:22 AM So if you dont show what happens with the bet money?
Shove it up your ass for all I care:) Lets see here, I have been to every Vegas Supra meet since it was started and no one has won as many as I. Its a good bet that I will be there. But as I stated, the bet is at the starting line in Vegas, this way there are no misunderstandings. Now give me your proxy and a commitment from Lyan or just admit that you have no intention of betting.
EightSecondSupra 09-26-2005, 12:46 PM Shove it up your ass for all I care
Such poetic justice in that statement.....
1BADSUPRA 09-26-2005, 12:59 PM so many variables come into play, but usually if you crash when you lift, the way i think it happens, is the people have there wheels pointed in the wrong direction to counter steer when they lift, then the weight transfer goes to the front wheels and upsets the car, causes it to go out of control
The reason people crash is because they lose control. How do you lose control? Either....A....it happens so fast that you don't have time to react properly, or B you don't know how to react properly. Those are the only two reasons. Quite simply in Ryans case.....he was A....really lucky, or B really stupid..... this ofcourse depends on your point of view. Where NHRA called it Stupid, along with several other experienced racers. Other less experienced racers called it lucky. There are also those who know absolutely nothing about drag racing that called it skilled....go figure. :aiwebs_02

Saad Saad 09-30-2005, 10:11 AM Since the bet is on, when will the race be held?
What we will do is make a confirmation on the bet in the staging lanes on the first or best oppertunity for the two cars to line up together. For the record, this is a Bottle and Saad bet and Lyan(Ryan)Woon will be Bottle's proxy. The wager is $1000 on Lyan vs Saad and $1000 on Jason vs Lyan. Normal fouls apply, red light or crossing center and slamming into the wall, you lose :moon:

Line up with me at SILV. We will do this bracket style. My personal best is 12.6 and the car's best is 12.1. I do expect you to accept at least 1 of my 2 bets I am offering you.

So let me understand this, your challenging me to a bracket race? Hahahahahaha, ya, thats what I built my car for, bracket racing. I think that you may want to post that challenge on the Honda board:) Maybe if you pull your interior out and duct tape your hood you can improve on that 12.6:) Have a good time in Vegas, you crack me up, I'm laughing my ass off here...
SteelCitySupra 10-01-2005, 12:32 AM :rock_band I cant belive you guys are still bitching about this. This thread sucks. How bout everyone show up with a extra 1000 bucks. And IF they ever race, then put it on the line THEN. God knows, that no one will race anyone, excuses will arise adn people will pussy out. Its how it always is.
And if someone does race, there will be some more bitching about why that person didnt actually win and no money will be transfered. But well see, Vegas is coming up and it will all unfold...

ChrisB 10-01-2005, 01:52 PM If you consider all the things that I blow up and go through during my passes, a $50 payout isn't even worth a pass. I go through a set of tires which have to be shipped, mounted and balanced every 10 passes, I change the oil and filter after every 2 days at the track, change the tranny fluid every 4 days at the track, race fuel slowly kills fuel pumps which have to be replaced periodically, last time at the track I went through three fuel pumps and blew out 2nd gear in the tranny. You have the occasional motor blow up, the occasional wheel come off, the occasional transmission failure. These really add up over time and make every pass very expensive.
When I was BPU, I would get 50 passes out of a clutch and run the crap out of the car and never replace anything. In my estimation, a 10 second car costs roughly 4 times what an 11 second car does to run, and a 9 second car is roughly 3 times what a 10 second car does to run and I don't even know what it would cost to run an 8 second car.
Put up $500 and he still might not even consider it. It's all about bragging rights and that's what the smack talk is all about.
Chris.

Well said.. Normally I wouldnt chime in on a thread like this. I would just sit back and enjoy it. But I have nothing but :respekt: for guys running 9's and 8's in thier Supes.. I see the dedication and money that goes into these cars so I dont get offended or take sides on this stuff.. These guys have some fast cars and have a lot invested into them.. Making petty little bets trying to look like a baller is just pointless. If I ever find myself in a street Supra pushing the 8 sec barrier, I think I would enjoy these E-Beef's as well.. Its motivation! Shit, even my weaksauce MK3 averages $20-$25 per pass. :snork_lac
apx632 10-02-2005, 03:56 PM all i can say about vegas is this. good luck to all the guys who are competing. maybe next year i can save up to fly out to witness the event. and since i live in houston..i can only hope that a lot of you guys come out to tx2k6 as well. :D

bottle 10-05-2005, 10:06 AM Jason Siebels says he can run an 8.70 et, I want to see if he can if so it will be hard for me to win my 1000 dollars unless Woon has something up his sleeve.

So are you coming to Vegas? Oh yea, not in your budget. So how isn't it in your budget if you're willing to waste $1000?
Chris.
bottle 10-05-2005, 11:09 AM I will not be in vegas because of the nopi race and I have a lot of meetings going on at this race as well.

Too bad you guys aren't going to be there, it won't be the same without you. I'll collect my winnings in Pamona! ;)
bottle 10-05-2005, 01:16 PM yeah the vegas organizers dont schedule it around the race season.
We are in the in the points lead so there is no way we can make it.
If the organizers would do it around the race schedule we would be there.
