: Are parts getting cheaper.
aka kactabigun 05-02-2006, 11:43 AM Just been to my local Toyota Dealer today and ordered a throttle cable for the 1jz. £35.00 + vat. Not sure how much your paying over the pond or in Europe. £35 English pounds is allot i think. :hitcomput
Ive had parts sent over from other countries and ended up paying import taxes when they get to the door. Thats a bloody rip off aswell.
Do you think parts prices for older Jap cars are getting rediculous.
I think Toyota's takeing the piss. :aiwebs_00
bitsnake 05-02-2006, 01:52 PM toyota increasing some prices last year as every manufacturer do every year. depends on age of car and parts categorie. all rubber things for instance are getting more expensive the older the car since mostly they have an expirey date and must be re-manufactured. All metall things are not so bad and mostly don´t change.
Most problem (in germany) are the toyota dealers himself. There is in theory a recommended sale price from toyota but most / every dealer add´s some points on top. Would think the same problem in other countrys. Once you know a comparable price for a special part (for instance the accordion hose) you can compare and maybe leave a dealer. look for another who values a "parts only" customer more and don´t think customers are silly enough to pay their prices. It´s a bit difficult but you could check prices with friends or on the forum and get a feeling for your dealers price level.

bitsnake 05-02-2006, 01:57 PM Addon: parts prices for jap cars are a bit higher but thats normal for imported cars. the rising parts prices for older cars are just commen for mostly all brands. Should be glad if the car is not too old so mostly all parts are available right now. One Exception of the rule (but i think also in germany only) is mercedes benz. parts are on a relative moderate level compared with other brands.
And for sure: you pay some luxury tax on supra parts for sure. thats the price for having an outstanding car.
aka kactabigun 05-03-2006, 10:51 AM I tottally agree with you John, Dealerships are only interested in selling new cars not wasteing time on enthusiasts that are trying to keep one of the best cars Toyota made in the 80's early 90's
The MK3 was £29,000 pounds back then and you could buy a brand new house for that money.
What sort of price was the top of the range MK3 in other countries back then?
Not sure how much the basic model was, the N/A :punch: :snork_lac
supramacist 05-03-2006, 01:34 PM I priced a new fan shroud. they want 115$ plus tax, for that hunk of plastic. And I can't find any supras in junk yards close enough to get hold of one, so I fixed mine for the time being. Hope it holds.
aka kactabigun 05-05-2006, 02:01 AM Every shroud ive looked at seems to be snaped in the exact same place lol.
Like you say the old cable tie job seems to hold it in place. :snork_lac
boostin89 05-11-2006, 04:49 PM from what i've read they sold for about $30,000 base model. I could be wrong. In the U.S.
supramacist 05-11-2006, 09:11 PM They were 28,900.oo for the white package. This car has everything except leather. No targa, but there is a sliding moon roof. 6 spkr. stock cd/ cassette. The glove ox is possessed by a ford demon I think...., it never works without a fight.
hagar the 'orrible 05-15-2006, 05:46 AM i once needed a spring clip to fit on the end of a honda driveshaft and whilst the car was 14 years old the same part was in use today on an accord. the guy had 3 in stock and refused to sell me one incase he needed it for customers with new cars. he said that all honda dealers got together and bought these things by the thousand and then had them shipped over and they weren't going to do that for a while. being a paying customer is not enough, you have to be buying new cars before they give a crap about you. my car was sat on three wheels for about 2 months before i came up with an equivilent. they just wouldn't sell it to me.
aka kactabigun 05-15-2006, 07:08 AM I would of had one made me Orrible.
