: Worlds Fastest Production Car
Suprageezer 04-03-2006, 12:22 AM Not a Ferrari, Not a Porsche, Not a Lambo, Not a Mercedes, Not a BMW Not a Cobra. It's a Dodge Charger Daytona 237.373 that is damn fast. I wonder if there are any MK4's out there that could challenge that record someday.
Nick 95 6sp 04-03-2006, 08:01 AM Maybe it depends on how you define "production" because the Bugatti Veyron production car already exceeded that number. I really don't like that contraption but it does have power and speed:
Some cut & paste info:
How would you define the most amazing production car in the world? Would it be:
The car with the most horsepower?
The car with the fastest top speed and acceleration?
The most expensive car?
At the moment, the Bugatti Veyron appears to have it all:
A W-16 engine that can produce 1,001 horsepower
A top speed of 250+ mph (400+ kph)
A zero-to-60 time of three seconds
A zero-to-180 time of 14 seconds
A price tag somewhere in the $1.2 million range.
PS: I think I can find other "production cars" that also exceed the Charger number ...but it's fine performance nonetheless.
Nick 95 6sp 04-03-2006, 08:55 AM I was thinking about this some more. While I've never gone this fast in my Supra, I remember reading well supported comments by a knowledgeable, long time Supra owner and serious enthusiast, that a well set up 6sp BPU Supra can hit a little over 190mph, I think the number was 193mph ...I don't know how much distance is needed for that but we all know 115 to 120mph in the 1/4mi is typical. Of course with upgrade to a single turbo, that number will be blown out of the water.
Something I have always been interested in trying with my Supra is one of the standing mile runs. I was tring to talk a couple of locals into trying it this year but so far I have nobody but myself interested in actually doing it. Once I have my single conversion done in the next few weeks, the only big missing link besides a top speed tuning tweek is a roll cage and I'd give it a shot. I'm going for a smallish single but even that with a good tune and high octane can get me over 600whp, enough to do the deed.
Being in the Philadelphia area, the closest event to me is the Maxton Mile run by the East Coast Timing Assoc = ECTA http://www.ecta-lsr.com/faq.htm
supramacist 04-03-2006, 11:05 AM wow...., I am surprised that I don't have an answer as to what my ideal sport car would be........, i'll think sbout this and get back to it.
Stealth97 04-03-2006, 01:45 PM Nick. Tommy Bahn of AutoBanh Motorsports drove his Supra in the Texas mile on a shakedown day recently. His speed was 201 mph.
He is going to go 220 mph+ if there is no headwind come summer in Texas. Just watch.
The only way to go that fast in a 6spd, is to raise the rev limiter. I believe Tommy can rev to 9500+. I don't think 227 in the mile is out of the question.
Nick 95 6sp 04-03-2006, 02:42 PM Stealth97,
Of course I know the name "Tommy Bahn" but do you know if his Supra for this run was on stock turbos or a single? If single, which one and what kind of setup, if you know? Damn, at 9500+rpm he should have no problem hitting that!
I didn't put this together, some Supra-brainiac did it. Here's a spread sheet showing the 6sp gear ratios vs speed and engine RPM in each gear, this is using a 255/40 X 17 rear tire, and you notice that it says you can get up to 220mph at 7333 rpm ...OK I need a gForce ECU for that, but I have one with chips for 7500rpm limit and 8000rpm limit. For top speed runs, I'd also cram a larger diameter tire on the back, like maybe a 275/40 which would increase speed by 7.8%

Suprageezer 04-03-2006, 07:41 PM I believe that what defines the car is the class of cars it ran it's time in at the Bonneville Salts Flats. People can always say there car goes this fast or that fast but until you run a car under the same set of rules at the same place the established record holders do its not really a record is it? many people say there car went whatever speed and dont realize that there are factors like wheel spin at very high speeds that can make a speedometer say it's going a heck of alot faster than it really is. There's the inherent spedometer misreadings that are common on most street cars. So I added a link as to who exactly says this car is that fast. One thing is I don't think the car is completely stock since I saw it runs a 572 hemi, and the car came stock with a 426. So I would imagine one of the 1200-1500 hp Supras we all read about and see the dyno pulls on should be able to run in the same class and beat it. I'm not sure if any of the Supra folks know, but that guy has held that record every year since he bought that car in 70. It seems no one can actually get their car going fast enough there to beat, even after all these years.
I would love to see a Supra whip him.
Rick
He runs ins the Classic Production - /CPRO Class

Nick 95 6sp 04-04-2006, 08:56 AM The east coast timing association can beat up the southern california timing association ;)
My goal is not to say my speedometer read over 200mph since it doesn't go that high anyway and what you say is true about wheel slip, errors, hear say, legends, BS, etc. I would like to run the Maxton Mile under the official auspices of the ECTA so I officially get my name in the "over 200" club. I'm not at all interested in vanity plates, but "200 CLUB" would be kinda cool on a full weight full leather interior stereo and airco street car.

Nick 95 6sp 04-06-2006, 07:11 AM I bow down to the Bugatti Veyron
Just in case I get incorrectly associated with liking that car, or in case Santa Claus is listening, I really really don't like that car ...the Bugatti I mean. Give me a good old McLaren F1 and I'm as happy as a pig in mud.
Nick M 06-25-2006, 12:37 AM So you really meant fastest modified production car. That award goes to the builder and driver, not the car manufacturer.
Nick M 06-25-2006, 12:39 AM I was thinking about this some more.
I think if the governor is disabled, the car reaches max engine speed in 6th gear going "only" 185 mph. A taller tire would be a cheap way to get to 191.
supramacist 06-25-2006, 02:58 AM A taller tire would help on the top end, if you have the room to wait. It was also a good point that until it is done where the record was obtained, you haven't hit it yet. With this concept, I agree.
david809 01-24-2011, 03:24 AM Oh never knew that the dodge Charger Daytona would be the fastest car leaving behind BMW,mercedes, lamo, ferrari and all.
