recently, when the boost comes on, i get a bad burnin smokey smell in the driving compartment (firewall has a few holes didn't patch up).

so i check the oil cap today and i see a little milkey resedue on top of the oil cap so i think maybe a blown head gasket... i do a compression test (cheapo gauge) and it read anywhere between 130-140 psi in all the cylinders.

also when boost hits, there is a big puff of smoke out the exaust... making me think it could be a blown turbo?

anyway, could it still be a blown head gasket or is it more likely a blown turbo or?

i don't see any oil leaks anywhere in the engine bay either

A blown turbo will not make a milkey residue in the oil cap. That is most likely a blown head gasket. That will also cause the smoke out the exhaust. When turbos fail they usually entirely stop spinning. It is rare that they will work and spew smoke. When that does happen, however, the smoke is white. When it's a HG smoke or valve guide, that is usually blue. Is the motor a new build?

I have to disagree on one part of what you said. I just took off the IC piping yesterday and found that my stock CT26 had so much play in it you could push the vanes against the housing. Yes, the car is still running, but is pouring blue smoke out the back at idle, and primarily during transition from positive to negative vacuum (letting off the gas or gradually reducing speed, then gradually getting back on the gas). The IC piping was full of oil....

Needless to say, I'm off the road until it is rebuilt, but the car was running (and boosting) until then, but using a quart of oil ~150 miles or so. We also did a compression check at the same time, and all is well there, so my oil use and smoke issue is the turbo. But it is blue smoke, not white. Evidently this problem has been there a while, but only became very noticable when I took off the cat for a test pipe. The cat probably masked the amount of smoke the car was belching.

Now for my question.... I see on your web site that you are still offering the Turbonetics stock rebuild, whie most others (including Turbonetics themselves) have stopped this offer. Is this a case of a web page in need of update, or is the rebuild still available? Also, are there kits available that a customer can order to do the rebuild himself? Thanks!
