I do HPDE road course driving at least a few times a year, been doing those for over five years now. I haven't done autocrosses in over 25 years, back then in my '67 XKE Jag which was very nimble, good low end torque w/4.2 liter DOHC inline 6cyl and relatively light compared to my Supra ...actually about a 1000lbs lighter! But this Spring/Summer I plan to go out with a few Supra guys around here (Philadelphia area) who have autocrossed their cars.

Weight is for sure a bad thing when turning. But if you search around, you'll find quite a few people have good results (and lots of fun) at autocrosses with their Supras, even the NA's. If I recall correctly, one MkIV guy is in the SCCA autocross nationals quite consistently.

Most of the events I go to are at Pocono, I also go to Watkins Glen even though it's a 4-1/2hr drive IMO that track is road course heaven; this season I also will go to Summit Point WV once. At Pocono, besides the big NASCAR ...sorry for using the "N" word in this forum... tri-oval, they have five or six different infield configurations they set up for various car and bike events;usually the chosen infield setup plus part of the tri-oval. Here is a link to PDA who runs a lot of the Pocono events; if you hit on Pocono you will find a track map and as you move the cursor over the track, you will see the different infield setups. I just tried it now and they must be updating it since it is down http://www.pdadrivingschool.com/schedules/
Last year for a Phila SCCA HPDE event at Pocono running clockwise, the infield eventually wound around to the back straight at the "tri oval" kink then moving on toward the big banked first corner for NASCAR but they threw in a little chicane there to slow everybody down otherwise many cars including mine would be at near top speed before even exiting the banked turn, then the banked first turn ran onto the entire main front straight and at the end of that a hard brake to enter the infield again ...if you have the car and balls to stay on the throttle coming into and all the way thru the big banked first turn, you would easily hit well over 160 before braking at the end of the straight. That's about as fast as I was going, but if I had more practice getting used to and comfortable with the g forces in that first turn I'm sure I'd hit higher speed. This year for that event I'll be running my new single setup, cranked up on race gas with about 200hp more than last year.
